The National Testing Agency (NTA), which conducts the NEET-UG exam, is facing serious allegations of question paper leaks and other regulatory issues. Over the past two weeks, petitions against the NTA and the Union Government have been accumulating.
Student protests rocked the country last week over allegations of NEET-UG 2024 paper leak and grace marks awarded to over 1,500 aspirants. While the grace marks were later scrapped and the students were offered a re-test, the paper leak was denied by the education minister.
Amit Anand disclosed that candidates were provided with leaked question papers and answers on the evening of the exam. He also confessed further revealed that burnt remains of the question paper and answer sheet were discovered at his residence, solidifying the evidence against him.
He confessed that “I went to meet Junior Engineering Sikandar at the Danapur Municipal Corporation office for some personal work. I plugged to Sikandar my ability to procure leaked papers for competitive exams and assist candidates in passing them. Subsequently, Sikandar expressed his interest in aiding NEET aspirants and agreed to the terms of payment, revealed Amit Anand in his confession.”
According to Shikandar, another accused in the case, Nitish Kumar and Amit Anand claimed that they had leaked the question paper of the competitive exam and they were charging Rs. 30-32 Lakh per aspirant to ensure a pass in NEET.
Petitions voice
The petitioners, including candidates, relatives and coaching centers have raised their voice against the NEET paper leak. On May 5, over 24 Lakh students appeared for the NEET-UG 2024 exam.
Total 13 arrests have been made in connection with the NEET-UG paper leak scandal, in which one identified mastermind Sikandar, is a junior engineer from Danapur Municipality.
Supreme Court Notices
In response to this growing controversy, the supreme court has issued notices to the Centre and the NTA regarding petitions seeking to transfer the NEET-UG 2024 case from various high courts to itself. The petitioners are also seeking inclusion in the total of 1,573 students who were granted grace marks and offered to take re-exam options on June 23. Now, the Supreme Court has scheduled the hearing for July 8, taking steps towards resolving this crisis.
After hearing fresh petitions seeking cancellation of NEET UG 2024, the Supreme Court refused to put a stay in the counselling process and the new admit card for the NEET UG 2024 will be sent to the concerned students directly through their registered email address.
NEET reconducted exam
The NEET 2024 exam will be reconducted on June 23, 2024, for 1,573 candidates who were given grace marks due to loss of time at the centre on May 5. The NEET 2024 admit card for the retest has been released on June 20, 2024 and the result of the exam will be declared on June 30, 2024.
The NEET 2024 counselling will be held as per the schedule, tentatively from July 6, 2024 onwards. NTA has released answers to FAQs regarding NEET 2024 result controversy.
