The GRE general test and GRE subject tests are taken by inpiduals applying to graduate, business and law programs. GRE 2025 scores have been used by admissions and fellowship panels at thousands of graduate programs around the world.
GRE General test
The GRE general test measures verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, critical thinking, and analytical writing skills. times are listed below:
- Analytical writing: one section with one timed writing task - 30 minutes.
- Verbal reasoning: one 18-minute section with 12 questions: and one 23-minute section with 15 questions.
- Quantitative reasoning: one 21-minute section with 12 questions: one 26-minute section with 15 questions.
The GRE general test is available in three formats
GRE Computer-based test
The GRE general test taken on a computer at a GRE test centre. It is available in all countries that have access to the internet.
GRE Paper based test
The GRE test that is taken offline is taken on pen and paper. In India, candidates are required to opt for the GRE computer based test.
At home
The GRE General test can also be taken at home everywhere that the GRE test is normally available. The test is taken on their own computer at home. The at home test is identical in content, format and on-screen experience to the test taken at a test centre and is offered around the clock, seven days a week.
*Total testing time is 1 hour and 58 minutes.
GRE 2025: Subject tests
The GRE Subject tests measure achievement in specific areas and assume undergraduate majors or extensive background in those disciplines. These tests are available in the following disciplines:
- Mathematics
- Physics
- Psychology
Total testing time is 2 hours and 50 minutes for the Mathematics Test and 2 hours for the Physics and Psychology tests. There are no separate times sections.
