The National Testing Agency (NTA) released a new NEET 2024 scorecard and merit list on July 26, 2024. This was because the marks for a controversial Physics question were changed after a Supreme Court decision. Some students who picked the right answer for that question got 4 extra marks, while others who chose the wrong answer lost 1 mark. If students didn’t attempt the question, they didn’t gain or lose any marks.
After this change, 44 students scored the highest possible marks of 720. Because of the score change, the NEET 2024 rank list was updated, and the number of top scorers dropped to 17. A total of 13,15,853 students passed the NEET 2024 exam out of 23,33,162 students who took the test. Additionally, 135 students were caught using unfair methods during the exam and were disqualified, reducing the number of test-takers to 23,33,162.

The NEET percentile score indicates how a candidate's performance compares to others. It represents the percentage of candidates who scored lower than a particular aspirant. The NEET percentile is determined in relation to the highest score obtained in the exam. According to NTA, the NEET percentile rank reflects the percentage of scores that fall below a specific score within a group. A standard formula is used to calculate a candidate's NEET percentile score. The formula for calculating the NEET percentile is provided below.
NEET Percentile = [(Total number of candidates who appeared - NEET rank) / Total number of candidates who appeared] × 100
