CBSE Syllabus 2025-26 Out, Key Changes in Classes 10 & 12

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has released the CBSE Syllabus 2025-26 for Classes 10 and 12, introducing several significant changes. CBSE Class 10 students will now have the option to appear for two board exams annually, i.e., in February and April, while CBSE Class 12 board exams will continue to be held once a year, scheduled for February 17, 2026. CBSE Class 10 Syllabus 2025: Key Highlights

CBSE Class 10 Syllabus 2025–26 has been released with several important changes to improve student learning. A key change is the introduction of a dual-exam system, allowing students to appear for exams twice a year, in February and April. The new syllabus also follows a 9-point grading system, with 80 marks for the board exam and 20 marks for internal assessments. Below are some of the key changes:

Grading System: CBSE Class 10 board examination will follow a 9-point grading scale for converting marks into grades.

Board Exam: Each subject will have an 80-mark theory paper.

Internal Assessment: A compulsory internal assessment will carry 20 marks per subject.

Passing Criteria: A minimum of 33% marks in each subject is required to pass.

Skill Subjects: Students can choose one of the following skill subjects:

  • Computer Application (Code 165)
  • Information Technology (Code 402)
  • Artificial Intelligence (Code 417)

Language Requirement: Students must choose either English or Hindi as one language subject in Class 9 or Class 10.

Failure in Core Subjects: If a student fails in a core subject (Science, Mathematics, Social Science, or a language) but passes a skill or optional language subject, the passed subject may replace the failed one for calculating the final result.

CBSE Class 12 Syllabus 2025: Key Highlights

CBSE Class 12 Syllabus 2025–26 has been released with several changes aimed at making learning more effective and student-friendly. The board exams will continue to be held once a year, and the syllabus follows a 9-point grading system. CBSE has also introduced new skill-based subjects to help students gain practical knowledge. Below are some of the key changes:

Grading System: CBSE Class 12 board exam will also follow a 9-point grading system.

New Skill Electives: Four new skill electives have been introduced:

  • Land Transportation Associate
  • Electronics and Hardware
  • Physical Activity Trainer
  • Design Thinking and Innovation

Subject Selection: Only one subject can be chosen from the following:

  • Informatics Practices (Code 065)
  • Computer Science (Code 083)
  • Information Technology (Code 802)

Learning Areas: The curriculum includes seven major learning areas:

  • Languages
  • Humanities
  • Mathematics
  • Sciences
  • Skill Subjects
  • General Studies
  • Health and Physical Education
