IIIT was established by the Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India (GoI) on a Not-for-profit Public Private Partnership (N-PPP) basis. It is an Institute of National Importance (INI) founded under the Indian Institute of Information Technology University Act 2017.
The institute was established with an objective to cultivate advanced knowledge in information technology and to furnish the IT sector and other related sectors with a global standard workforce.
