The Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur (IIT KGP) offers a number of scholarships to students from diverse backgrounds. These scholarships are available to IIT Kharagpur undergraduate and graduate students, and they are awarded based on merit, need, or a combination of the two. Institute Type Scholarships / Assistantship These scholarships are funded by the institute. The Institute shall provide scholarships on the basis of merit-cum-means to all eligible students of the 4-year B.Tech. (Hons.), 5-year Dual degree, 5-year B.Arch. (Hons.), and 5-year Integrated M.Sc. courses, as well as the 4-year BS programme, in compliance with the following rules:

  • All students admitted to any of the 4-year B.Tech. (Hons.), 5-year Dual Degree, 5-year B.Arch. (Hons.), and 5-year Integrated M.Sc. courses, as well as the 4-year BS program, with the exception of SC and ST students (who are eligible for Post-Matric Scholarships from their respective State Governments).
  • These scholarships will be offered to no more than 25% of students admitted each year to the Undergraduate and Dual Degree programs.
  • The value of these scholarships will be established by the Board of Governors from time to time.
  • All MCM scholarship holders will be free from paying the Institute tuition charge. They will, however, have to pay all other prescribed fees.

Eligibility for the Merit-Cum-Means (MCM) Scholarships

Merit-Cum-Means (MCM) Scholarship
  • For fresh applicants, the student must have scored at least 60% in aggregate or a grade equivalent to 60% in the qualifying test for JEE Advanced.

 

  • For subsequent renewals, the student's performance in the two consecutive semesters of the prior session, i.e. GPA, as updated after the supplementary/summer quarter examination, cannot be less than 7.00. (Senate 287, H.I.12)

 

  • Students will be eligible for Merit-cum-Means (MCM) and other Institute Scholarships even if EAA is not finished (Senate - 322.H.I.C.5).

 

  • Scholarships will also be reinstated for students who have taken a brief leave of absence due to a medical or family emergency, subject to eligibility and permission by the appropriate authority.

Senate - 328.H.I.C.6 The upper limit of yearly income, as determined by the Government of India from time to time, would be used as the means criterion for awarding scholarships. The money earned during the fiscal year ending before the start of the session will be considered for this purpose. An annual family income certificate/copy of the income tax return (both parents)/income affidavit for the financial year preceding the grant or renewal of the award, as the case may be, must be presented by the student's parent/guardian with the scholarship application.

  • Outstanding Institute and Hall dues, if any, may be deducted at the source, with the remainder payable to the scholar.

 

  • Students who meet the stated finances criterion but cannot meet the specified merit criterion may be excluded from paying tuition fees. The number of tuition-free students will be limited to 10% of those admitted each year.

 

  • If it is discovered at any time that a student obtained the MCM scholarship by providing fraudulent documents or suppressing any material information that led to the grant of scholarship, the scholarship will be suspended immediately and an investigation will be launched to verify the facts.
Endowment and Alumni Funded scholarships

These scholarships are provided through an endowment fund, and the rules governing such awards are listed below: The phrase best student used in the following paragraphs refers to the student who, in addition to meeting other general requirements, has the highest CGPA in the previous semester among all students in the same batch.

Guru Krupa Foundation (GKF) USA

The GKF is a postgraduate scholarship for international students that awards scholarships to meritorious self-funded international students studying at the postgraduate level in all subjects. They provide a stipend of INR 25,000 a month to cover tuition, hostel/accommodation costs, mess fees, and living expenses. Genuine students who intend to apply for the scholarship should complete out the form in response to the Office of International Relations' call for applications. The call is typically released in January of each year.

  • The award is based on the candidate's academic excellence, and no disciplinary action should be taken against him/her while at IIT Kharagpur.
  • The cumulative grade point average must be at least 8.5, with no backlog in any course.
  • The student does not get any financial aid from the Institute or an outside sponsor.
