Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Kakinada (JNTUK) was established in the year 2008 in Kakinada city, which was a major sea port, the college was an integral part of JNTU, Hyderabad, since 1972. Trifurcated with regard to JNTU Hyderabad by the act of legislature, in 2008, it was notified as JNTU Kakinada. There are 159 affiliated colleges spread across the jurisdiction of these 11 districts. The University has around 2.3 lakh students studying more than 50 bachelor courses, more than 120 master courses, and a number of Ph.D. courses.
