Madurai Kamaraj University (MKU), also called MKU Madurai, was started in 1966. It is a public university in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, and is run by the Tamil Nadu government. The university is approved by the UGC and received an ‘A++’ grade from NAAC in 2021. In the NIRF 2023 rankings, MKU was ranked 53rd among universities. It also secured the second rank in the "SWACHHTA" Ranking by the HRD Ministry of India for cleanliness in higher education institutions.
