Medhavi Skills University was established in 2021 under the Sikkim Act of 2021. This is a state university which is recognised by the Section 2(f) of the UGC Act 1956. The Medhavi Skills University aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP 2020) and, under this policy, the institute focuses on providing skill-based higher education.
The University Grants Commission (UGC), National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), Directorate General of Training (DGT), and Pharmacy Council of India are among the organisations that have recognised MSU. It has been appointed as a Third Party Aggregator (TPA) for the National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS) and is an awarding organization approved by the National Council for Vocational Education and Training (NCVET).
