National Institute of Technology Agartala was founded as a Tripura Engineering institution in 1965, a public engineering institution. Engineering, management, basic science, and the humanities are among the UG and PG programs offered by NIT Agartala. The National Institute of Technology Agartala is ranked 26th in the Engineering (Government) category by India Today 2024 and 82nd in the Engineering category by NIRF 2024. In 2006, the Indian government changed the name of the Tripura Engineering College to NIT Agartala. AICTE has authorised Agartala NIT. Situated in Agartala, Tripura, NIT Agartala is commonly referred to as NITA. NIT Agartala is an independent institution established by the NIT Act of Parliament. A centrally financed institution, the National Institute of Technology Agartala is the nation's twentieth National Institute of Technology.

At the national and international levels, NIT Agartala has inked a number of memorandums of understanding with different organisations and institutes. Among other esteemed institutions, the Institute has formed academic partnerships with IIT Kharagpur, IIT Guwahati, Jadavpur University, IIEST (previously BESU), NITK Surathkal, and NIT Warangal. NIT Courses and Fees 2025

NIT Agartala provides undergraduate and postgraduate courses. The college offers the BTech curriculum at the undergraduate level in nine specialisations, including mechanical, chemical, electrical, civil, and biomedical and biotechnology engineering. Additionally, MBA, MCA, MSc, MTech, and PhD programs are available at the National Institute of Technology Agartala. More than twenty specialisations are available for the MTech program, including Biotechnology & Biochemical Engineering, Integrated Energy Systems, Geotechnical Engineering, Thermal Science & Engineering, and Communication Engineering. The BTech course has a total seat intake of 959, whereas DASA has an intake capacity of 144.

The NIT Agartala JEE Mains 2024 cutoffs for admission to the BTech, BArch, and Integrated BTech programs have been released. The JoSAA cutoffs for 2024 in Round 4 ranged from 19544 to 56937. Notably, under the AI Quota, general category candidates compete fiercely for the B.Tech. in CSE. The B.Tech. in CSE program has seen a downward tendency in its final rankings when we compare the 2024 NIT Agartala cutoff with the previous two years. This course's Round 4 cutoff was 18501 in 2022 and 19029 in 2023. With a Round 4 closing rank of 56937 for the General category, B.S. + M.S. in Chemistry was the least competitive course.
