Established in the year 1986, the National Law School of India University Bengaluru is a public law state university. Through research and policy interventions, the premier law school aims to underpin the change of the Indian legal system and lead the way in legal education reforms.
As a result, with the first class starting in 1988, NLSIU was among the first universities in the nation to provide a five-year integrated legal degree at the undergraduate level. There is a thriving community with student groups and events on the 23-acre campus of NLSIU in Nagarabhavi, Bengaluru. The university comes up with 1355 on-campus students and 89 faculty members. The National Law School Admission Test (NLSAT) is administered by NLSIU Bangalore for admission to three-year LLB (Hons), Masters in Public Policy (MPP), PhD (Law), and PhD (Interdisciplinary) programs. Admission to the B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) and LLM programs are determined solely by the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT), which is administered by the Consortium of NLUs. NLSIU offers seven post-graduate degrees and a post-graduate master's degree through its Professional and Continuing Education (PACE) program, open to students from all backgrounds. NLSIU's PACE programs are delivered online in a hybrid format.

Admission to NLSIU Bangalore is determined by either a university-conducted exam or a national legal entrance exam. Following graduation, the career services team helps students find internships and post-graduate opportunities that lead to long-term, rewarding professions. Throughout their five years, all B.A. and LL.B. students must complete a 25-day internship in February or March of each year. Every year, across the three years, all LLB (Hons) students must do a 25-day internship in February or March. MPP and LL.M. students must also do an internship in February or March.
