The Pondicherry Institute of Hotel Management & Catering Technology (PIHMCT) was established in 1991. It was formerly known as the Pondicherry Institute of Hospitality Craft and has grown into a premier government institution. Renamed in 2003 to reflect its expanding scope, the institution is affiliated with the Directorate of Technical Education in Chennai. It has been recognised by the National Council for Hotel Management & Catering Technology (NCHMCT), Noida, as well as IGNOU. This recognition ensures that the courses offered meet national standards and prepare students for a successful career in the dynamic hospitality industry.
PIHMCT's curriculum includes a B.Sc. in Hospitality and Hotel Management, as well as diploma programs in housekeeping, food and beverage service, and food production. These courses provide a blend of industry-relevant information and hands-on experience. Beyond a degree and diploma, the college actively promotes skill development through short-term certification programs, such as Hunar se Rozgar, which last 6 to 8 weeks and focus on skills that are in high demand. The eligibility criteria for these programs are passing 12th grade with a minimum of 40% marks from a recognised board. The selection process is based on the NCHMCTJEE entrance exam.

Pondicherry Institute of Hotel Management & Catering Technology Admission Process
The admission process in PIHMCT is both merit-based and entrance-based. Admission for B.Sc in PIHMCT Pondicherry will be only in the order of aggregate marks obtained in the qualifying examination and diploma on a merit basis. Interested candidates can be admitted to the college through the National Council of Hotel Management and Catering Technology Joint Entrance Exam (NCHMCT JEE) for a B.Sc. Degree. For diploma courses, there is no entrance exam. The eligibility for each course varies depending on the level of study. Students must apply for the NCHMCT JEE exams to be admitted to PIHMCT Pondicherry. The registration process usually starts in the first week of February, and the last date can be around March. How to Apply
Step 1: Filing the Application Form of NCHMCT JEE
Interested candidates can apply for UG and diploma courses after passing the Higher Secondary (+2) exam in either the General or Vocational stream, with an age limit of 18-22 years, by qualifying for the Entrance exams. The candidate must complete the application form with the basic details and documents. Diploma candidates can get admission by connecting to the college directly.
Step 2: Counselling Session after NCHMCT JEE Results
Candidates must choose the college from the list during the counselling session to get admission. They will be eligible for admission if they are included in the merit list.
Step 4: Seat Reservation
Shortlisted students will receive a call from the college. Candidates must complete the admission process by submitting the required documents and paying the fees to secure a seat.
