Sardar Patel University (SPU) in Vallabh Vidyanagar, Gujarat, was established in 1955 by an act of the Legislative Assembly of the Bombay Province. The University Grant Commission (UGC) has recognized SPU, and it is a member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU). SPU is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and accredited by NAAC with Grade-A. The university is also the affiliating institution of 148 colleges.
