VSSUT Burla was established in 1956 in the name of the University College of Engineering (UCE). Earlier University College of Engineering (UCE) was a constituent college of Utkal University, Bhubaneswar. Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology, through 16 departments, offers UG, PG, and other courses to students. These courses are provided across the Computer Applications, Architecture, and various other streams.

Selection Criteria:
Admission to undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programs at VSSUT is granted to eligible candidates on the basis of entrance examinations as per the courses. The qualifying exams are as follows:
- B.Tech - JEE Main and JEE Advanced Score
- B.Tech - GATE
- M.Sc - IIT JAM
- MCA - Odisha JEE
- PHD - GATE/ UGC-NET/ CSIR-NET/ ICAR or ICMR score OR Written Test and Interview
