The JoSAA counselling process helps students secure admission to top engineering colleges in India. It includes several steps such as registration, choice filling, seat allotment, and document verification. The counselling is conducted in multiple rounds based on seat availability. Candidates must carefully select their preferred institutes and courses. It is important to meet all deadlines to avoid disqualification. Below is a detailed step-by-step guide on the JoSAA 2025 counselling process.
After registration, candidates must fill in their preferred courses and colleges. They should carefully analyze previous year cutoffs before making choices. The system allows modification before locking. Once locked, choices cannot be changed. Candidates should prioritize their selections based on interest and eligibility. The final selection is based on availability and merit.
JoSAA follows a systematic seat allotment process. It considers factors like rank, category, and availability. The allocation happens in multiple rounds. If a candidate does not get a seat in one round, they can wait for subsequent rounds. Seat upgradation is possible if higher preference seats are available. Check out the below table for JosAA seat allotment process 2025.
Criteria | Description |
---|---|
JEE Rank | Higher ranks get preference in seat allocation. |
Category Reservation | Seats are reserved as per government norms. |
Availability | Seats are allocated based on vacancy. |
After seat allotment, candidates must confirm their seat by selecting one of the following options:
Option | Meaning |
---|---|
Freeze | The candidate accepts the allotted seat and does not want to participate in further rounds. |
Float | The candidate accepts the allotted seat but is open to higher-preference choices in further rounds. |
Slide | The candidate accepts the seat but wishes to upgrade within the same institute. |
Once a seat is allotted, candidates must accept it by paying the acceptance fee. The fee payment confirms the admission process. Candidates must complete this step within the given time frame to avoid cancellation. Check out the table below for JosAA 2025 seat acceptance fee as per categories.
Seat Acceptance Fee
Category | Seat Acceptance Fee |
---|---|
General/OBC | INR 35,000 |
SC/ST/PwD | INR 15,000 |
Candidates must upload required documents online. JoSAA verifies these documents to ensure eligibility. Incorrect or missing documents can lead to disqualification. Check out the below table for the required documents for JosAA Counselling 2025.
Required Documents for JoSAA Counselling 2025
Document Name | Purpose |

Class 10 & 12 Marksheet | Academic eligibility proof |
Category Certificate (if applicable) | Reservation proof |
PwD Certificate (if applicable) | Disability proof |
Seat Allotment Letter | Proof of allotted seat |
The cutoff is the minimum rank required for admission into IITs, NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs. JoSAA releases opening and closing ranks after each round. The cutoff varies for different categories and courses. Candidates must check the previous year’s cutoff to estimate their chances of getting a seat. Factors like exam difficulty, number of applicants, and seat availability affect the cutoff.
Physical reporting is mandatory for candidates after the final round of JosAA 2025 counselling. Candidates must visit the allotted institute in person with their original documents. The admission will be confirmed only after successful verification of documents and payment of fees. Failure to report may result in cancellation of the seat.
