JEE Main 2025 Eligibility Criteria- Age Limit

Candidates do not have an age limit for appearing in the JEE Mains 2025. All candidates who passed the class 12/equivalent examination in 2023, 2024, or appearing in 2025 regardless of their age can appear in the JEE Main 2025 examination.

JEE Main Eligibility Criteria 2025 - Qualifying Exam

Candidates must have qualified any of the following exams to apply for JEE Main 2025

  • Final Examination of the 10+2 system conducted by the recognized Central/ State Board in India, which includes, but is not limited to, the following; Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi; Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations, New Delhi etc.
  • Intermediate or two-year Pre-University Examination conducted by a recognized Board/ University.
  • Final examination of the two-year course of the Joint Services Wing of the National Defense Academy
  • Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Institute of Open Schooling with a minimum of five subjects.
  • Any Public School/ Board/ University examination in India or any foreign country is recognized as equivalent to the 10 2 system by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).
  • Higher Secondary Certificate Vocational Examination.
  • A Diploma recognized by AICTE or a State board of technical education of at least 3 years duration.
  • General Certificate Education (GCE) examination (London/ Cambridge/ Sri Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level.
  • High School Certificate Examination of the Cambridge University or International Baccalaureate Diploma of the International Baccalaureate Office, Geneva.

JEE Main 2025 Eligibility Criteria - Year of Passing Qualifying Examination

Only the candidates who have passed the Class 12/ equivalent examination in 2023, 2024, or appearing in 2025 will be able to appear for JEE Main 2025. Candidates who appeared in the Class 12/ equivalent examination in 2022 or before and those appearing in it in the year of 2026 or onwards are not eligible to appear for JEE Main 2025.

JEE Main Eligibility Criteria of Subjects in Class 12/ Qualifying Exam

The JEE Main 2025 exams will comprise three different programs: BTech, BArch, and BPlan. It is to note that the sets of subjects included are different in each program.

  • For JEE Main 2025 Paper 1 (BTech): Physics and Mathematics have to be there as compulsory subjects and one out of Chemistry/ Biology/ Technical Vocational Subject
  • Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics for class 12 or equivalent examination for JEE Main 2025 Paper 2A (BArch).
  • For JEE Main 2025 Paper 2B (BPlan): Candidates must have mathematics in class 12/equivalent examination.

JEE Main Eligibility Criteria- Number of Attempts

Candidates who have passed class 12 in the year 2022 or 2023 or candidates who will appear in class 12 examination in the year 2025 are eligible to appear in JEE Main 2025. Candidates who have passed class 12 before 2021 or would appear in class 12 after 2025 are not eligible to appear in the exam according to JEE Main 2025 eligibility criteria. JEE Mains will be conducted two times in January and April respectively in 2025.

JEE Main Eligibility Criteria Marks in Class 12

Candidates can sit for JEE Main irrespective of their percentage in class 12. Candidates should note that there is no need for JEE Main eligibility marks in 12th for sitting in the exam. The eligibility criteria of 75% marks is applied only at the time of admission to the institute.

JEE Main Eligibility Criteria 2025: State of Eligibility

The eligibility of State in the eligibility criteria for JEE Main 2025 means the State from where the candidate has passed Class 12 or equivalent qualifying examination by which the candidate becomes eligible to appear in JEE Main 2025. For the purpose of filling up the Application Form, State code of eligibility would not depend upon the native place or the place of residence of the candidate. For instance, if a candidate appears for the Class 12 examination in New Delhi but is a resident of Noida, Uttar Pradesh, then the candidate's State code of eligibility will be Delhi and NOT Uttar Pradesh. If a candidate has passed Class 12 or equivalent qualifying examination from one state but appeared for improvement from another state, the candidate's State code of eligibility will be from where the candidate first passed the Class 12 and NOT the State from where the candidate has appeared for improvement. Candidates who have passed/appeared in class 12th from NIOS should choose the State of Eligibility as the State where the study center is located.

For Indian nationals passing Class 12 or equivalent exam from Nepal/ Bhutan the State code of eligibility will be decided based upon permanent address in India as filled up in the passport of the candidate.

JEE Main Eligibility Criteria for Admission in IITs, NITs, IIITs and GFTIs

The eligibility criteria for admission to IITs, NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs are made by the respective institute and not by NTA. The eligibility criteria for appearing in the examination JEE Main have been decided by NTA only. Minimum 75% Marks in Class 12

Candidates have to get at least 75% marks in class 12 to get admission in the NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs. Candidates belonging to SC/ST have to get at least 60% marks. However, the marks of class 12 is low in states like Uttar Pradesh (U.P.), Madhya pradesh (M.P.), Bihar which takes admission through JEE Main for BTech Courses

JEE Main Eligibility Criteria for Appearing in JEE Advanced

The eligibility criteria to appear in JEE Advanced are that candidates should have appeared in JEE Main and attained the minimum cutoff marks declared by NTA. Also, candidates should be in top 2,50,000 rank in order of merit in the Common Rank List to appear for JEE Advanced 2025. One very important condition is that candidates can appear in JEE Advanced twice, in two consecutive years from the year of passing class 12/ equivalent examination.
