Indian Institute of Technology (IITR), Roorkee FAQ
Will I regret joining IIT Roorkee for MBA leaving IMT, IMI, TAPMI?
IIT Roorkee will never be an option that you’ll regret. Here are some reasons why getting an MBA from an IIT like IIT-R is considerably different from getting one from a business school like XIMB or Tapmi.
- Infrastructure: Modern labs, classrooms, libraries, and other spaces were made available. Both the hostel’s amenities and the meals at the mess were excellent. Students utilize bicycles to get to the department, which is around 500 meters from the dormitory.
- Placements: 90% of the batch was placed. In 2023 the highest package was INR 27.94 LPA and the average package offered was 18.34 LPA. Top recruiters were KPMG India, Bristlecone, Cognizant, ICICI Bank, etc. There are student exchange programmes with some of the top universities around the world which also is an added perk of studying in this university.
- Faculty: All the professors and assistant professors in the faculty were Ph.D. holders and had good acumen and knowledge.
What is the preferred order among IIM Amritsar, IIM Bodh Gaya, or IIT Roorkee for taking an MBA course? Where should I attend?
My brother has offers from Bodhgaya as well as Amritsar but chose the former for a number of reasons. Some of these reasons have been listed below
- IIM Bodh Gaya was initially under the mentorship of IIM Calcutta for five years and thus adopts a similar teaching methodology which is phenomenal.
- The curriculum caters to various arenas of Management and is updated to meet the changing demand of the industry.
- Despite being a new IIM, it has been able to make its mark in terms of batch size, profile, academics, and placements.
- IIM Bodh Gaya Placements 2023 has a record of 100% placements. The average salary increased by 33% at INR 16 LPA whereas the highest salary increased by more than 100% at INR 48.58 LPA. 70 recruiters participated in the placement drive. Some of the top recruiters are Amazon, BNY Mellon, Deloitte, HCL, Infosys, and ICICI Bank
- Several clubs and committees run by students keep the campus life dynamic and promote extracurricular activities as well.
- An E-Cell runs to promote startup culture among the students through summits, events, and competitions since its inception.
- IIM Bodh Gaya is known for its academic rigor and thus has collaborations with various international B-schools for an exchange program for both the students and the faculty members.
- The ROI is also high around 99%
IIM Bodh Gaya is a perfect blend of academic rigor, and opportunities for growth and extracurricular activities and thus should be preferred over IIM Amritsar. As far as IIT Roorkee is concerned, MBA is best done from a Business School as the environment is an important factor that is lacking in the case of an engineering college like IIT Roorkee.
Which is better, IIT Roorkee or NIT Trichy?
Both IIT Roorkee and NIT Trichy are highly respected institutions in India, known for their academic excellence and research opportunities. In terms of ranking, IT Roorkee is currently ranked higher than NIT Trichy in most national and international rankings.
Overall, NIT Trichy is ranked 21 out of 200 colleges in India in 2022 by NIRF IIT Roorkee ranks 7 out of 200 colleges in India in 2022.
By choosing IIT Roorkee you will be attaching yourself to the IIT Tag for the rest of your life which undoubtedly will help you in shaping your career.
Both institutes offer equally good exposure and facilities in terms of infrastructure. So it’s better you find the driving force within you. Determine your area of interest and then go for the branch that is best in either of the institutes. Don’t let your relatives or friends make the decision for you.
What is better, metallurgical in the old IIT (Kharagpur/Roorkee) or electrical in the new IIT (Ganghinagar/Mandi)?
Metallurgical and Electrical engineering are both highly respected fields of study. The choice between them will depend on your personal interests and career goals. The old IITS like Kharagpur and Roorkee has a long-standing legacy in metallurgical engineering, whereas the new IITs like Gandhinagar and Mandi have strong electrical engineering programs.
However, personally, I feel metallurgy in Kharagpur or Roorkee is a better option than joining EE in newer IITs. Here are a few points that support my stance
- The exposure, culture, opportunities, peer groups, and overall campus life you will experience at IIT Roorkee cannot be compared to that of newer IITs which are still growing and have a long way to go.
- The branch does matter to a certain extent, but if you look at the bigger picture, the Institute’s brand and opportunities overshadow the drawbacks of a less preferred branch.
- Those who are desperate can always opt for a branch change at the end of the first semester.
Ultimately, the choice between metallurgical engineering at an old IIT and electrical engineering at a new IIT will come down to your personal inclinations and career goals.
Which one is better IT in IIIT Allahabad or Biotech in IIT Roorkee?
Both IIIT Allahabad and IIT Roorkee are prestigious Engineering institutes in their respective fields. The choice between them ultimately depends on your personal interests and career goals.
Information Technology (IT) at IIT Allahabad focuses on computer science and engineering covering diverse topics like software engineering, programming languages, databases, and artificial intelligence. Whereas, Biotechnology at IIT Roorkee is known for its research-oriented approach.
However, it’s worth mentioning that Biotechnology has little scope in India and is highly demanded in developed countries. One can witness a high monetary investment in this field outside India. I suggest you go through the curriculum of Biotechnology and then decide if you are interested in it or not. Your IIT tag will be an added bonus because of its global recognition and extensive alumni base.
IT industry is also extremely sought after these days because of the huge job opportunities it creates.
Ultimately, if you are inclined towards CS, then IT at IT Allahabad would be a good choice. But if it’s biology and biotechnology that intrigues you, then Biotechnology at IIT Roorkee is the right choice for you.
Which is better in terms of placements for an MTech in computer science, IIT Roorkee or NIT Surathkal?
Both IIT Roorkee and NIT Surathkal are highly reputed institutes, and both have good placement records for their MTech in computer science programs. However, based on the available data, IIT Roorkee has a slight edge over NIT Surathkal in terms of average placement packages.
In the most recent placement season, IIT Roorkee had an average placement package of around Rs. 16 LPA for its MTech in the computer science program, with companies like Amazon, Goldman Sachs, and Microsoft visiting the campus for recruitment.
