About North-Eastern Hill University
The North-Eastern Hill University Act (24 of 1973) signed on May 26, 1973 by the President of India signed, which had been approved by both Houses of Parliament. On May 26, 1973, it and the First Schedule of the Act, which included the University's Statutes, were published in the Gazette of India (Extraordinary). The goals of the institution, as stated in the law, are to disseminate and advance knowledge by providing instructional and research facilities in such branches of learning as it may deem fit, to pay special attention to the improvement of the social and economic conditions and welfare of the people of the hill areas of the North-eastern region, and in particular, the intellectual, academic and cultural advancement. Mayurbhanj Compex at Nongthymmai was sold to the Government of Meghalaya in 2005 after the departments were moved to the Permanent Campus at Umshing. Currently, practically every department of the university is housed in buildings on the permanent campus, with the exception of a few centers in Bijni Compex. We now have Internet access thanks to our own VSAT, which is connected to every department on campus. We're working to increase the range of our Internet access. On campus, the telecommunications department has installed a completely automated phone exchange. This is unique among the universities in the area.

North-Eastern Hill University Admission Process 2025:
Online applications are accepted for courses at Northeastern Hill University. Merit and entrance exam results determine admission to different courses. CAT, CMAT, ACPC Admission, CUET-PG, and other entrance exams are accepted. Before the application deadline, those who wish to be admitted must participate in the NEHU Shillong admissions procedure. North-Eastern Hill University Scholarship 2025:
Candidates for Junior Research Fellowships (JRFs) must be under 35 years old for males and 45 years old for women as of July 1st, have earned a Master's degree from an accredited university with at least 55% of the possible points, and have passed the National Eligibility Test (NET). Research scholars who may have passed the NET may also be eligible to receive fellowships from UGC. Meritorious students who are 25 years of age or older and have passed their honors degree exams with at least 55% of the possible points are eligible to apply for a few NEHU Postgraduate Scholarships.
If a new applicant from the final class receives at least 55% of the possible points on the previous exam, the university may, at its discretion, also provide them a scholarship based on their performance. (5% relaxation for SC/ST candidates). These scholarships and grants are not available to students who work full-time. The Students' Aid Fund offers financial aid to underprivileged and worthy students to cover tuition, exam fees, textbook purchases, stationery costs, hospital stays, clothing costs, and emergency medical expenses. It also offers interest-free loans to deserving students and to cover any other needs deemed legitimate by a special committee established for that purpose.
LIBRARY: NEHU has two libraries: the Tura Campus Library and the Central Library in Shillong. Additionally, a number of university departments have collections of books and reports that are relevant to their research and teaching endeavors and are easily accessible to the department's students.
TRANSPORTATION: The university has a transportation system of its own. Numerous buses regularly travel from the university to various locations throughout the city. To be eligible to use the facilities, all NEHU students must pay a set minimal charge.
Study trips, field trips, and travel sessions: The university arranges for departments to go on field trips or study tours anywhere in the nation. For the duration of the study tour or field excursion, students get a modest daily allowance in addition to a discounted train fare. All students are also eligible for a rail travel concession for their fieldwork, research, and other academic pursuits. Concessions for rail travel are also offered to students on vacation who are returning to their hometown.
The National Service Plan: The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS) of the Government of India sponsors the National Service Scheme (NSS) Cell, which is situated on the main Shillong Campus and aims to use students' free time for social activity. The program runs in 35 Meghalayan colleges that are affiliated with NEHU. In previous years, the NSS Cell has been effectively carrying out the scheme's charter. New universities are being introduced, and numerous creative new student activity programs are being put into place.
FACILITY FOR SPORTS: The Department of Sports organizes many sporting events for the University and its affiliated colleges. In sports including cricket, football, martial arts, athletics, table tennis, badminton, chess, basketball, and volleyball for men and women, the department hosts competitions for students at the Shillong and Tura campuses. For the students, coaching camps are also planned. The department features football, basketball, and cricket coaches. There is a well-equipped gym in the department for both men and women.
Center for University Health: The University Health Center offers preventive, therapeutic, and promotional health services as well as basic medical facilities to university students. Both during regular business hours and after hours, medical officials are on call for consultations. Patients receive free medication based on a prescription from the university medical officer.
In the dressing room, the center offers sufficient space for dressings, injections, and minor surgical operations. Every member of NEHU has their routine immunizations. Every sporting event and competition has first aid services. In an emergency, the health center offers an ambulance service to take patients from their homes to the health center or, if necessary, a hospital. The health center has begun using biochemical testing for the study of blood and urine. The health center has a list of willing blood donors from the NEHU community and makes arrangements for blood donors in an emergency for both NEHU members and those outside of it.

The location of North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) is Shillong, Meghalaya. Shillong Airport, also called Umroi Airport, is the closest airport and is roughly 30 kilometers away from the institution. To get to NEHU from the airport, one can take public transportation or hire a taxi.
Guwahati Railway Station in Assam, which has excellent connections to India's largest cities, is the closest major railway station. To get to NEHU from Guwahati, one can take a bus or taxi to Shillong. Shillong has excellent road access to Guwahati and other nearby cities.
You can take a taxi or a bus to NEHU from Shillong, where there are frequent bus connections from Guwahati. A navigation app can be used to determine the optimal path when driving to NEHU. The university is roughly 10 kilometers from Shillong's downtown at Mawkynroh-Umshing.
Library: Beginning with a collection of 600 books in 1973, the North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) Library has grown to become one of the top university libraries in the North-Eastern Region of India. It currently has over 2.9 lakh volumes of books and bound periodicals, which are complemented by the vast amount of information resources made available by the e-ShodhSindhu Consortium for Higher Education Resources and the links to international information resources and services on its website.
