In order to be admitted to master's programs at engineering schools like IITs, NITs, and IISERs and to be hired by some public sector businesses, engineering and science students must pass the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE). The National Coordination Board GATE, The Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India, and the seven Indian Institutes of Technology in Mumbai, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Chennai, Roorkee, and Bengaluru jointly administer the GATE exam.

GATE Registration

Visit the Official Website and Create an Account
  1. Go to the official GATE website at (https://gate.iitkgp.ac.in/).
  2. Click on the “New Registration” button.
  3. Create an account by providing a valid email ID and setting a password. This email ID will be used for all future communications regarding GATE 2025.
Fill Out the Application Form
  1. Log in to your account using the email ID and password you registered with.
  2. Complete the application form by entering your personal details (such as name, date of birth, gender, nationality) and educational details (such as qualifying degree, college/university name, year of passing).
  3. Make sure to doublecheck all the information for accuracy before proceeding to the next step.
Upload Scanned Documents
  1. Prepare scanned copies of your passport sized photograph and signature. Ensure that the images meet the specified requirements (e.g., size, format).
  2. Upload the scanned photograph and signature to the application portal.
Pay the Registration Fee
  1. Pay the GATE 2025 registration fee using a credit card, debit card, or any other available online payment method.
  2. The fee amount will vary depending on the category of the candidate (General, OBC, SC/ST, PwD) and possibly the number of papers being attempted.
Submit the Application Form
  1. Review all the entered information and uploaded documents carefully.
  2. Once you are sure that everything is correct, submit the application form.
  3. After submission, a confirmation page will be generated. Print out this confirmation page and keep it safe for future reference. It will serve as proof of your application and may be required during further stages of the GATE examination process.

Important Documents Required

Photograph
  1. A high-quality, recent passport sized photograph of the candidate.
  2. Ensure that the photograph meets the specified size requirements (between 2 KB and 200 KB).
  3. The background of the photograph should be plain, and the candidate's face should be clearly visible without any shadows.
Signature
  1. A high-quality image of the candidate's signature.
  2. The signature should be done on a white paper with a black or dark blue ink pen.
  3. Ensure that the scanned image of the signature meets the specified size requirements (between 2 KB and 200 KB).
  1. Valid Identity Document
  1. Details of a valid identity document that the candidate will also carry to the examination hall.
  2. Acceptable IDs include Passport, PAN card, Voter ID, AadhaarUID, College ID, Employee ID, or Driving License.
  3. Ensure that the ID details are accurately entered in the application form.
Degree Certificate or Provisional Certificate
  1. A scanned copy of the candidate’s degree certificate or provisional certificate from the Head of Department/Institute.
  2. This certificate should confirm the candidate’s eligibility for GATE.
  3. Follow the format specified in Appendix A of the GATE information brochure.
  4. Ensure that the scanned document size is between 10 KB and 300 KB.
Category Certificate (if applicable)
  1. A scanned copy of the category certificate (SC/ST) if the candidate belongs to these categories.
  2. The certificate should be in PDF format and meet the specified size requirements (between 10 KB and 300 KB).
  3. The category certificate should be valid and issued by a competent authority.
PwD Certificate (if applicable)
  1. A scanned copy of the Person with Disability (PwD) certificate if applicable.
  2. The certificate should be in PDF format and the file size should be between 10 KB and 300 KB.
  3. The PwD certificate should confirm the candidate’s disability status as per the norms.
Dyslexic Certificate (if applicable)
  1. A scanned copy of the Dyslexic certificate if the candidate has dyslexia.
  2. The certificate should be in PDF format and the file size should be between 10 KB and 300 KB.
  3. The dyslexic certificate should be issued by a competent authority and confirm the candidate’s condition.
Net-Banking/Debit Card/Credit Card Details
  1. Details for fee payment via net-banking, debit card, or credit card.
  2. Ensure that the payment method chosen is functional and has sufficient funds to cover the registration fee.
  3. Keep the card or bank details handy to avoid delays during the payment process.
