IIT Roorkee has released the GATE 2025 Eligibility Criteria on its official website. The GATE 2025 Candidates must meet specific eligibility criteria to apply. Indian nationals, as well as foreign nationals from Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Ethiopia, and the UAE, are eligible. As per GATE eligibility criteria, a Bachelor’s degree (B.E./B.Tech./B.Arch.), a Master’s degree (M.Sc./M.A./MCA) in Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or Computer Applications, or an Integrated Master’s or Dual Degree (third year or higher) in Engineering/Technology is required. Candidates who have completed or are in the final year of professional society examinations equivalent to B.E./B.Tech./B.Arch., recognized by the Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India, such as AMIE by the Institution of Engineers (India), are also eligible. Notably, there is no age limit for GATE 2025, meaning candidates of any age can apply.

The GATE 2025 Application Process was conducted online through the GOAPS (GATE Online Application Processing System) portal, with registrations closing on November 20, 2024 (November 22, 2024, for PwD candidates). Candidates were required to upload valid documents, including a photograph, signature, and academic certificates while filling out the application form. The exam is scheduled for February 1, 2, 15, and 16, 2025, with two sessions each day: Morning (9:30 AM - 12:30 PM) and Afternoon (2:30 PM - 5:30 PM). The GATE score is widely used for admission to postgraduate programs (M.Tech./Ph.D.) at IITs, NITs, and other top institutes, as well as for recruitment in PSUs such as GAIL, SAIL, and IOCL.

GATE 2025 Eligibility Criteria

Nationality: Besides Indian Nationals, candidates from Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Ethiopia, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are also eligible to apply.

Educational Qualifications: Candidates should have completed or be in the final year of a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Technology, Architecture, or a related science subject. Master’s degree candidates in any branch of Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Applications, or equivalent are eligible. Candidates in the 3rd or higher year of an Integrated Master’s degree program (Post-B.Sc.) in Engineering/Technology or those in the 3rd, 4th, or 5th year of an Integrated Master’s or Dual Degree program in Engineering/Technology will be considered eligible. Apart from these who have completed or are in the final year of professional courses equivalent to B.E./B.Tech./B.Arch., recognized by the Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India, such as AMIE by the Institution of Engineers (India), are eligible.

Age Limit: There is no specific age limit for GATE 2025.

Number of Attempts: There is no restriction on the number of attempts. Candidates can appear for GATE as many times as they wish.

GATE 2025: Course-Wise Eligibility Criteria

Candidates applying for GATE 2025 must meet specific educational qualifications based on their degree programs. The eligibility criteria for different courses are detailed below:

UG Programs

  • B.E. / B.Tech. / B.Pharm.:  Candidates must have completed or be in the third year or higher of a four-year Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Technology, or Pharmacy. Those who completed a three-year B.Sc. or Diploma are also eligible.
  • B.Arch.: Applicants should be in their third year or beyond of a five-year Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or a four-year degree in Naval Architecture/Planning.
  • B.Sc. (Research) / B.S.: Students pursuing a four-year Bachelor’s degree in Science (Post-Diploma or after 10+2) must be in their third year.
  • B.Sc. / B.A. / B.Com.:  Candidates enrolled in a three-year Bachelor’s degree program in Science, Arts, or Commerce must be in their third year or have already graduated.
  • B.Sc. (Agriculture, Horticulture, Forestry): Candidates who enrolled in a four-year degree program in these fields must be in their third or fourth year or have completed the course.

PG and Professional Degree Programs

  • M.Sc. / M.A. / MCA or Equivalent: Applicants must be in their first year or higher of a Master’s degree in any discipline, such as Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Applications, or Arts.
  • M.B.B.S. / B.D.S. / B.V.Sc.: Candidates pursuing medical or veterinary degrees should be in their fifth, sixth, or seventh semester or beyond to be eligible.
  • Pharm. D. (Post 10+2): Students enrolled in a six-year Doctor of Pharmacy program, which includes an internship or residency training, must be in their third year or beyond.

Integrated and Dual Degree Programs

  • Integrated M.E. / M.Tech. (Post-B.Sc.): Students must be in their first, second, third, or fourth year of a four-year integrated Master’s degree in Engineering/Technology.
  • Integrated M.E. / M.Tech. / M.Pharm. or Dual Degree (After Diploma or 10+2): Candidates in a five-year integrated Master’s or dual degree program in Engineering/Technology/Pharmacy must be in their third, fourth, or fifth year.
  • Integrated M.Sc. / B.S. Or M.S.: Students pursuing a five-year integrated Master's program must be in their third year or later.

Professional Society Examinations

  • Candidates who have completed Section A or an equivalent level of B.E./B.Tech./B. Arch equivalent exams conducted by recognized professional societies (e.g., AMIE by the Institution of Engineers-India, AMICE by the Institute of Civil Engineers-India) are eligible to apply. These examinations must be approved by the Ministry of Education (MoE), UPSC, or AICTE.

GATE 2025 Eligibility Criteria for International Students

Candidates from Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Ethiopia, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are also eligible to apply for the GATE 2025 exam.

To qualify, applicants must meet one of the following academic requirements:

  • They should have completed or be in their final or third year of a Bachelor’s degree program in Engineering or Technology.
  • Alternatively, they must be pursuing or have completed the pre-final or final year of a Postgraduate degree in a relevant Science discipline.

GATE 2025 Eligibility Criteria: Important Documents

Candidates applying for GATE 2025 must upload several documents to verify their eligibility. These documents should be submitted during the application process.

  • Candidates Who Have Completed Their Qualification: Applicants who have already completed their qualifying degree in 2025 or earlier must submit their Degree Certificate Provisional Degree Certificate or Course Completion Certificate Membership Certificate (if applicable)
  • For Appearing Candidates: Those who will meet the eligibility criteria in 2025 or later must provide either a Provisional Certificate Letter (issued by the Head of Institute, Dean, Registrar, or Head of Department) or a mark sheet of Section A of AMIE or similar qualifications.
  • For PwD (Persons with Disabilities) Candidates: Applicants belonging to the PwD category must upload a valid PwD certificate issued by a recognized authority. Only candidates with at least 40% disability will be eligible for concessions in the application fee. Additionally, they must present the certificate at the time of admission to the allotted institute.
  • For Candidates with Backlogs: Those with failed subjects (backlogs) in their qualifying degree must submit a mark sheet from their institute for the final year. Internet-downloaded mark sheets will not be accepted.
  • For SC/ST Candidates: Candidates belonging to the SC/ST category must upload a valid proof of category to avail of the concession in application fees. Only certificates issued by authorized officials will be considered.

  • For Dyslexic Candidates: Applicants with dyslexia must provide a certificate issued by a recognized authority to be eligible for scribe assistance during the exam.
