Nandkishor
Anna University provides a wealth of resources to support students in learning in a stress-free atmosphere. It offers various amenities such as sports, a canteen, an auditorium, labs, a library, and dorms. The campus has separate dorms for boys and girls, along with shoe stores, cooperative stores, and department stores. The cooperative store provides stationery, while the department stores offer basic conveniences.
Facilities:
- Library: The library holds over 1,47,065 books, 12,953 SC/ST Book Bank Books, 112 current periodicals, 31,000 journal back volumes, 42 magazines, and newspapers. Additionally, the library has more than 5,000 E-books and 20,000+ E-journals. Students can also check out educational CDs from the library.
Department of Biotechnology
- Major Equipment: Plate scintillation counters, liquid handling systems, gel documentation systems, deep freezers (-80°C), FPLC systems, HPLC, ultracentrifuges, refrigerated centrifuges, spectrophotometers, fluorescence spectrophotometers, freeze-dryers, 300-liter fermenters, CO2 incubators, computer systems, AKTA Prime, microprocessor-controlled ELISA readers, animal cell culture reactors, and more.
- Laboratories: Bioprocess Laboratory, Cell Signalling Laboratory, Computational Biology Laboratory.
- Department Library: The Departmental Library is automated and has over 3,000 volumes on biotechnology, food technology, and pharmaceutical technology, as well as 40 national and international periodical subscriptions. Computer resources are available to access the National Knowledge Network (NKN).
Hostel
Basic facilities at hostels include water purifiers, TVs, common areas, games rooms, mess areas, security, and surveillance systems. For students admitted under the CIWGC, NRI, and FN categories, a special hostel has been built with facilities like microwaves, mini-fridges, geysers, air conditioning, and washing machines in the common areas. Separate hostels are available for boys and girls.
Distributed Information Centre (DIC) - Biotechnology Information System (BTIS)
The Department of Biotechnology's DIC, supported by the Indian government's DBT, conducts research in computational biology and bioinformatics. The DIC offers high-performance computing resources and internet access for research purposes.
- The Centre for Biotechnology at Anna University has been conducting research in computational biology and bioinformatics since 1989, supported by DBT.
- The Department of Biotechnology offers a full-time M.Tech. Computational Biology degree program, supported by DBT.
- Workshops are organized every year to train college instructors and research scientists in bioinformatics and computational biology education.
Research Topics
Key research areas include Structure-Activity Relationship (SAR) studies, Comparative Genomics, Systems Biology, Protein-Protein interactions, and Enzyme structure-function studies.
Infrastructure
The department's infrastructure includes Dell Cluster (2010), Dell and HCL systems, and software packages like Melanine 7.0 Classic 2D gel image analysis tools, GROMACS, and AutoDock.
Proteomics and Genomics
The department has a MALDI-7090, a high-resolution MALDI-TOF/TOF mass spectrometer for proteomics and protein characterization, supported by the Mascot search engine. The facility also supports studies on other biomolecules.

Sports facilities include Badminton Court, Basketball Court, Cricket Ground, Football Ground, Swimming Pool, Tennis Court, Hockey Ground, Volleyball Court, Handball Ground, Kabaddi Ground, Kho-Kho Ground, and Table Tennis.

The university has a dedicated computer center to meet all technological and computational needs. The center is regularly upgraded for students' benefit.
