The National Centre for Cell Science is an independent research facility at the national level, also known as NCCS. In many areas of cell biology, it is among the leading research institutes. NCCS got awards from Padma Shree, Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Awards, National Bioscience Award, and Swarnajayanti Fellowship. NCCS Pune provides Ph.D program, for admission in Ph.D modern biology, candidates must have at least 50% of their PG grades in related fields. NCCS Admission 2025

This college admits students through entrance exams and interviews. Candidates must have a postgraduate degree in any scientific field and a minimum Grade Point Average of 55% or higher to be eligible. Candidates with qualified JGEEBILS from NCBS/TIFR who do not have a fellowship. Only offline applications are accepted at NCCS. The application form must be downloaded from the official website and submitted on campus. The following documents are needed for both the interview and admission process:

  • Birth certificate
  • SC, ST, or physically disabled certificate.
  • Statement of grades for each graduation year or semester
  • Statement of Marks for M.Sc. Fellowship Certificate and JGEEBILS qualifying data for each year or semester
  • A valid Non-Creamy layer certificate for the OBC category.

It is important to carry both the original and self-attested copies. 

NCCS Summer Training 2025

Direct student admission to the Summer Training Program is not offered by NCCS. However, those who are accepted as Summer Research Fellows by the Indian Academy of Sciences will receive training for two months. Applying directly to the Indian Academy of Sciences SRF Program with a preference for NCCS is an option for students interested in summer training at NCCS.

The National Centre for Cell Science provides multiple facilities to their students. The facility provide by NCCS are

  • Library: NCCS boasts a vast library that includes over 12,000 bound journals, 2,800 books, and 200 NCCS Ph.D. theses. It is enhanced with Web-OPAC for document searching and Linux-based SLIM21 with RFID-enabled library software that aids in housekeeping operations. There are also a number of scientific journals and periodicals available.
  • Hostel: There are two separate, double-seated, coed hostels out there with 63 rooms each. Those seeking a Ph.D. at NCCS have access to hostels. All the essentials, including a television, solar geysers, newspapers, cleaning supplies, security, and more, are provided in the hostel rooms.
  • Computer: Technical support services for mobile phones, laptops, printers, scanners, and all other devices that interface with computers, including wired and wireless networks. There are now two internet connections available: one from Tata Communications Ltd. at a speed of 10 Mbps and one from NKN at a speed of 100 Mbps.

Additional facilities include automated DNA sequencing, mass spectrometry, bioimaging, and experimental animal facilities, among others.
