The Central University of Odisha (CUO) initially named the Central University of Orissa was vide section 3C of the Central Universities Act, 2009 established in the year 2009 by the Government of India. This University is one of the fifteen new Central Universities set up during the XI Plan due to concerns of ‘GRP and access’ to better higher education in fewer node districts.

The university is located in Sunabeda Town, Koraput District, Odisha. The university occupies 450 acres of land at Chikapar and Chakarliput villages. Contributes to a number of undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs in languages, social sciences, education, basic sciences, commerce, management, biodiversity, and applied sciences.

The university was recognised as a university and later as a Central University in the year 2009 When the university was established it was known as Central University of Orissa: However, in August 2019 it was renamed through the Central Universities (Amendment) Act, 2019 as Central University of Odisha.

Campus Facilities: At CUO, There are a variety of physical campus facilities provided by the university to enhance normal academic as well as co-curricular college learning atmosphere. The main library of the university has a total collection of 38,531 volumes of different textbooks, reference books, and several e-resources to facilitate the students and faculty members as a knowledge resource center in all fields/subjects.

The campus facilities include a Wi-Fi connection that enables easy use of the internet in research and communication needs among its occupants. In addition, there is a well-equipped laboratory facility, computer center, and smart class for improving the academic activities in the university.

CUO provides facilities for medical care such as a dispensary for immediate needs. There are also canteens and cafeterias found throughout the campus these serve a wide range of balanced nutritious meals and snacks.

Regarding gyms and sports, the university provides campus complexes with gym and sporting facilities that cater to a variety of student interests to promote physical activity through games and sports. To make it easier for staff and students to be transported, transportation facilities have been made available. Hostel Facilities: Boys' and girls' private hostels have been set up for the adequate housing of Central University of Odisha (CUO) students. To accommodate 236 rooms with a maximum built-up space of 105 square feet, each hostel building is multistory and designed on an area of 7,735 square meters gross of the pedestal. Every student in these hostels has access to basic amenities like fans, tables, chairs, beds, and cushions. To promote academic and extracurricular activities, other facilities include television-watching places, study spaces for groups, indoor games, recreation centers, and illuminated indoor and outdoor fields.

Sanitary eating places are available throughout the university mess where students can get meals three times a day depending on their option of taking vegetable or nonvegetable foods. The cost of hosting is cheap with development charges of Rs 1000 and non-refundable caution money of Rs 1000 during registration. Other semester-wise charges are a crockery fee ₹200, seat rent of INR 2000, and electricity charges ₹ 600. The students are also asked to deposit ₹2,000 towards mess advance at the hostel counters.

They have preferred the hostels to be built within the university so that they would be close to class, office, and lab facilities. It has Wi-fi enabled campus so as to facilitate and enable the students to have internet access for their academic uses. This university also has transport facilities where there are eight buses to transport students from different distances with ease and comfort.
