Guwahati University, famously known as Gauhati University, is one of the old universities in India. It was established in the year 1948 and located in Jalukbari, Gauhati. The National Assessment and Accreditation Accredited Grade A to the Guwahati University. The university is affiliated with more than 500 colleges. The university has been rated as 88th by NIRF for the year 2023 under the category of universities; the QS World Ranking 2023 lists it between 601 and 650 among Asian universities, while in India's Best University category, the GU university has positioned at number 34.

Admission for UG programs is based upon the entrance exam conducted by the university. For PG courses, the candidates have to acquire minimum pass marks in the Postgraduate Entrance Test (PGET) conducted by the university. and for PhD admission is based upon the Gauhati University Research Eligibility Test (GURET), which is also conducted by the university. The university is approved by UGC and AICTE. The average placement for UG and PG students is INR 5.25 LPA and INR 8.70 LPA, respectively.
