Ranchi University was established on July 12, 1960, as an autonomous university separate from Bihar University. Initially, it comprised 10 postgraduate departments, one constituent college, and twenty affiliated colleges. It now has 22 postgraduate departments, 19 constituent colleges, and 47 linked colleges, indicating tremendous growth. These institutes serve more than 1.6 lakh students.
The university offers a variety of conventional and vocational courses. It has established programs in yoga, medical, law, management, engineering, and other fields.
