The admissions in PhD programs are offered based on UGC NET/JRF scores at Tata Institute of Social Science. The entrance exam for PhD admissions is not conducted by TISS. PhD Admissions
Through UGC-NET scores, candidates are offered PhD admissions in three categories. These are:
- Qualified for both the Assistant Professor position and Ph.D. admission with JRF.
- Qualified for Ph.D. admission without a JRF and Assistant Professor post.
- Only eligible for a Ph.D. program and not eligible for a JRF or an assistant professorship
- For students falling into categories 2 and 3, their performance in the personal interview is given 30% of the weightage, while their NET score accounts for 70%.
- For students who fall in category 2, their selection will be made only on the basis of performance in the interview.
- In case, students with valid UGC NET scores and JRF holders didn’t perform well in the interview, then the personal interview is given 30% of the weightage, while their NET score accounts for 70%.
- The applicants must post a concept note or research proposal with not less than 2000 words on their proposed research. The questions in the interview round will mostly be from the research area.
