Merit scores from the following stages will determine admission to the PhD program. All applicants must take the entrance exam in three stages, except AIIMS Rishikesh's in-service medical faculty:
- Stage I: 30 Marks (30 MCQs, each worth 1 mark) MCQs related to aptitude that cover topics such as biostatistics, cell biology, lab technology, research methodology, and English (both written and verbal).
- Stage II: 40 marks (40 multiple-choice questions worth one mark each) MD, MS, MDS, and M.Sc. entrance-level multiple-choice questions (MCQs) that are based on subject-related theory.
- Stage III: Candidates must obtain a minimum combined score of 35 in Stages I and II in order to be eligible for Stage III. Candidates will not be considered for selection if they do not meet the requirements for stage III. For departmental clinical/practical/lab-based assessment/Departmental assessment & interaction with IRRB (20 marks), three times as many qualified applicants as the number of seats offered in a department will be called. To calculate the final total marks, these scores will be added to the scores from stages I and II plus special weighting. Candidates will be added to the final merit list and be eligible for admission if they receive 50% marks in Stage I, Stage II, and Stage III combined.
