GIET: UG Admissions Selection ProcessÂ
The selection process for undergraduate (UG) courses at Gandhi Institute of Engineering and Technology University(GIET) is either merit-based or entrance-based, depending on the specific program. Here’s how the selection process works:Â
- Merit-Based Admissions
- For certain UG courses, especially those in the Arts, Commerce, and Science fields, GIETU considers the aggregate score from the 12th-grade examinations.Â
- Students with a high percentage in their Class 12 board exams, such as the CBSE 12, are given preference based on merit. The cutoff percentage can vary by program and is influenced by the number of applicants and available seats.Â
- The university publishes a merit list based on these scores, and students who meet or exceed the cutoff are invited to proceed with admissions.Â
- Entrance Exam-Based Admissions
- For more competitive programs, such as B.Tech and certain other professional courses, GIETU requires applicants to have a valid score from specific entrance exams:Â Â
- Primary Exam: B.Tech is very common, with intake based mostly on passing grades on JEE Main (Joint Entrance Examination Main).Â
- State Exam: Students can also take B.Tech admission through OJEE (Odisha Joint Entrance Examination).Â
- Direct Admission: Depending upon the availability of seats and the rules and regulations of the University or college, students fulfilling the cut-off can seek direct admission based on their performance in the 10+2 standard.
- Counseling and Seat Allotment
- Candidates who have appeared in the JEE Main or GIETEE are short-listed based on their ranks and are called for a counselling session.Â
- Under this process, during counselling, students can opt for the preferred course and seat according to their rank.Â
- Admitted students are required to provide confirmation of verification documents and complete the fee payment after counselling.Â
- Documents Required
Generally, candidates must provide:Â
- Class 10 and 12 mark sheets.Â
- Entrance exam scorecards.Â
- Identification in the form of Aadhar or passport.Â
- Caste certificate in case of SC and ST candidates only.Â
- Passport-size photographs.Â
- Final Admission Steps
- Once the seat is allotted and documents are verified, students must pay the admission fees to secure their place in the program.Â
- Students are advised to regularly check the university’s official website for specific deadlines related to counselling, document submission, and fee payment.Â

GIET: PG Admissions Selection ProcessÂ
The selection process combines merit-based and entrance exam-based admissions for postgraduate (PG) admissions at Gandhi Institute of Engineering and Technology University(GIET). Here's how the selection process takes place:Â
- Merit-Based Admissions
- Certain PG courses, particularly in Arts, Commerce, and some Science programs, depend upon the marks from a student’s undergraduate degree.Â
- Applicants with strong academic records are placed higher on the merit list, which is created based on undergraduate performance.Â
- Students who meet or exceed the required aggregate score (often around 50% or higher) are eligible for further consideration and may be invited to submit their documents for final admission.Â
- Entrance Exam-Based Admissions
- For competitive programs like MBA, M.Tech, and M.Sc, GIET requires candidates to present a valid score from one of several national or state-level entrance exams:Â
- GIETEE: The University has its own Common Entrance Test known as the GIET University Entrance Exam (GIETEE), for which the University offers various Undergraduate & Post Graduate programs, which have been designed for students who have not given national level tests such as JEE, GATE, CAT or MAT.Â
- OJEE: The OJEE is a standard entrance examination for the degree and lateral entry to the various streams of their undergraduate, postgraduate & lateral entry courses in engineering, architecture, pharmacy, MBA, MCA and other professional courses for admission to the government/government-aided/private colleges within the Odisha state including the GIET University etc. Â
This is because the student score determines their rank on the admission list, and many students want to obtain a better score in these exams. Those students who will score the minimum threshold score or above will be allowed to proceed to the counselling and the allocation of seats. Â
- Counseling and Seat Allocation
- Shortlisted students are invited to attend counselling sessions based on the entrance exam results or merit list.Â
- During counseling, candidates can select their preferred program and secure their spot based on availability and rank.Â
- GIET University informs applicants of their counselling dates and any requirements well in advance so students have time to prepare.Â
- Document Verification and Fee Payment
Once a candidate’s seat is allocated, they must proceed with document verification to finalise their admission. Required documents include:Â
- Passport-sized photograph and signatureÂ
- Class 10th and 12th mark sheets (for identification and educational background verification)Â
- Aadhar Card (or equivalent proof of identity)Â
- Caste certificate (if applicable for reserved categories)Â
- Entrance exam scorecard (such as GIETEE or OJEE results)Â
Upon successful document verification, students must pay the course fee to reserve their seats. Payment methods are usually flexible, and the university provides a convenient online payment portal.Â
