Selection of students for Academic Courses

MD/MS/DM/MCh:

  • Admission to MD/MS and DM/MCh courses is given through All India NEET PG and NEET Super specialty exams
  • The counseling process is managed by the Director General of Medical Education and Training, Uttar Pradesh in conjunction with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India
  • These courses last for a duration of three years

PDAF/PDCC:

  • These institutes conduct entrance exams once a year for such programs on an All-India basis.
  • The process of the examination is handled by the Institute's Examination Cell under the Office of the Dean.
  • Two years for the PDAF and one year for the PDCC.

MSc (College of Nursing):

  • Admission will be based on a state-level common entrance exam held by Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical University, UP.
  • The duration will be two years.

BSc (College of Nursing):

  • In earlier times, entrance exams were conducted by the institute up to 2022.
  • Now since 2022 state-level common entrance examination is adopted for admission
  • Duration for the course is four years; six months is considered as an internship

MSc (College of Medical Technology):

  •  Entrance is done through entrance exam conducted by the institute
  •  Duration is two years

BSc (College of Medical Technology):

  • Similar to the BSc Nursing program, the intake was based on institute-level entrance exams until 2022.
  • From the year 2023, the intake is based on the state-level common entrance exams.
  • The course is of three years, with an internship of six months.

MHA (Department of Hospital Administration):

  • MHA course is also admission based, conducted by entrance exam organized by the institute
  • The course is of two years.

PhD in All Departments:

  • Announcements are issued by the research cell of the institution. In these announcements, a list of available faculty guides is published on the website of the institute.
  • Students are selected through interviews and other criteria by a selection board headed by the Dean.
  • Students need to have fellowship grants for applying for the PhD; details can be had from the website of the institute.
  • The institute has announced a part time PhD program from 2022, admissions of which will start in 2023.
  • The PhD program shall last for a minimum period of five years maximum; however, the candidate can submit his thesis after three years after the date of registration.

Non-Academic Training Programs (Hospital Services)

  1. Senior Resident (Hospital Services):
  • These are provided by almost all departments.
  • Durations are 3 years.
  • Eligibility: Candidates should have postgraduate degree (MD or MS)
  1. Medical Physics Resident (MPR)
  • This is conducted by the Department of Radiotherapy.
  • Duration: 3 years
  • Eligibility: Candidates should have M.Sc. in Medical Physics or Physics from a recognized university, and also with a Postgraduate Diploma in Radiological Physics from BARC, Mumbai, or an AERB, Mumbai recommended qualification.
  1. Senior Demonstrator:
  • Available at the Department of Molecular Medicine and Biotechnology.
  • Duration: 3 years.
  • Eligibility: Candidates must hold an M.Sc. in any branch of Science and a Ph.D. in a subject relevant to Health Sciences from a recognized university.
  1. Statistical Fellows:
  • Available from Department of Biostatistics and Health Informatics
  • Duration: 3 years.
  • Eligibility: Passed M. Stat, M.Sc. in Statistics, Biostatistics or Applied Statistics or Master of Computer Application (MCA) with maths and statistics as branches at master's level.
  1. Junior Resident (Non-Academic):
  • Various departments provide these, such as Apex Trauma Centre, Hospital Administration and Emergency Medicine.
  • Eligibility: Applicant needs to have a medical qualification like MBBS or BDS degree.

Method of Selection

  1. MD/MS and DM/MCh:
  • Selected through NEET PG and NEET Super-specialty exams respectively
  1. PDAF, PDCC, Senior Resident, Medical Physics Resident, Senior Demonstrator, Statistical Fellows, Junior Resident (Non-Academic):
  • For all candidates, a written entrance examination with a total value of 100 marks
  1. Part A: 60 questions, total 60 marks (1 mark for every one question)
  2. Part B: 20 questions, total 40 marks (2 marks for each)
  • Time Table of Examination:
  1. Duration-180 minutes.
  2. Type: Multiple choice questions. For each question, the candidate shall choose the appropriate answer.
  • Scoring Arrangement

Part A: Correct answer: 1 mark Incorrect answer: -0.2 marks (25% of the issued mark) Part B Correct answer: 2 marks Incorrect answer: -0.4 marks (25% of the issued mark)

  • No marks shall be issued for a question not attempted.
  1. Tie Breaker
  • Where two candidates secure equal aggregate marks:
  • The candidate securing superior marks in Part B shall rank higher.
  • If scores in Part B are identical as well, an older candidate ranks above.

  • PDAF and PDCC are academic programs; candidates must pass the final exit examination to receive their degree at Convocation. The others receive experience certificates only.

Academic Programs and Final Exit Examination

Exit Examinations: In all, there are annual exit exams held once in a year in the final six months of a course. If the students do not achieve the minimum marks for that qualifying exam, then a supplementary exam is arranged according to guidelines of NMC/NCI/UGC.

  • It is monitored by the office of the Dean and by an examination cell set up within the institute.
  • TCS scans answer sheets, dispatches these scanned answer sheets to examiners for evaluation, and then prepares the results.

  • For DM/MCh/MD/MS/PDCC/PDAF, every theory paper should have a pass of at least 40% and not less than 50% cumulatively in all the papers. For the practical exams, they should score at least 50%.
  • Presentation of the final thesis is made by external examiners. Candidates have to attend at least 3 doctoral committee meetings and obtain approval of the thesis before it can be presented.
