Founded in 1951, the New College is associated with the University of Madras. After more than 60 years of devoted service to the country, the college has established an impressive reputation as one of Chennai's top universities. Aspirants can enroll in undergraduate (UG) and post-graduate (PG) degree and diploma programs at The New College. The New College offers programs in the following streams: science, management, computers and information technology, humanities and social sciences, and commerce.

The New College Highlights 2025:

Both day and evening classes are available at the New College; the nighttime classes are self-financed. Applications are accepted for undergraduate, graduate, doctoral, and master's degree programs in the arts, sciences, and commerce. Online application forms are completed out. Additionally, forms are available via the college and the postal service. The tenth day following the release of the Tamil Nadu Higher Secondary Examination results is the deadline for submitting completed application forms for undergraduate courses. Similarly, the tenth day following the date on which the University of Madras releases the results of the undergraduate degree examination is the deadline for submitting forms for postgraduate courses.

Candidates must have passed the 10+2 exam from an accredited board in order to be admitted to UG programs. Candidates for postgraduate courses must have a degree in a related field. They must have a postgraduate degree in the relevant field in order to enroll in doctoral programs. Course selection is determined by the results of the qualifying exam and the interview.

The New College UG Admission 2025:

Three-year BA, B.Sc., and B.Com. programs are available at The New College in two shifts with a variety of specialties. Applicants must have completed both the relevant admission topic and the HSC from an accredited board. Merit lists are created based on candidates' performance in 10+2 in order to choose them for all courses. Interviews are held with the shortlisted candidates based on the merit list.

The New College PG Admission 2025:

Postgraduate courses in MA, M.Sc., and M.Com. are available at The New College. There are two shifts for the classes. Both assisted and self-financing options are available for the courses. Graduation in the relevant field is a prerequisite for entrance to postgraduate courses. The candidate's performance in the qualifying exam and interview determines their admission.

The New College Admission Process 2025:

  • After paying the application fee online using the provided link, complete the application form using the IOB PAY Track Id.
  • Since the admission office will only get in touch with candidates via these channels, you must supply at least one working mobile number and email address.
  • For the admissions process to run smoothly for the 2017–18 academic year, you must abide by all applicable college rules and regulations.
  • Applications that contain inaccurate information or an incorrect application fee will be denied; the payment link contains information about the application fee.
  • Selected candidates will receive notifications via SMS on their mobile device. Additionally, the list of students chosen for various courses will be posted on the college website and notice board.

The New College Application process 2025:

All UG courses require online applications. Application forms for PG and M. Phil courses are also available at the college office. Candidates must complete the online form by following the instructions listed below:

  • Go to www.thenewcollege.in, the official website, and select Admission.
  • After selecting Pay online, fill out all the necessary information. For undergraduate courses, the application fee is INR 200; for graduate and research courses, it is INR 250.
  • After selecting a payment method, click Submit.
  • The IOB PAY Track Id / SBI Select Payment Category and the payment date must be noted by candidates.
  • Enter the payment date and IOB Pay Track Id/SBI Select Payment Category.
  • After completing the admissions process, click the Apply button.
  • Enter all pertinent details, such as your permanent address and academic background.
  • Click Confirm after making sure that the date is correct.
  • The application number will be generated and transmitted to the mobile device after the application process is finished. If you have any questions about admission, include the application number.
  • Get a copy of the completed application, send it with the necessary papers attached.

The New College Eligibility 2025:

  • Shift 1: At the undergraduate level, the New College provides courses in Science, Commerce, Computers & IT, Management, and Humanities & Social Sciences during Shift 1, which runs daily from 8:30 am to 1:30 pm. Majors in economics, English, history, sociology, Arabic, and other subjects are available for the BA (Honors) program. While BSc (Honors) is available in Computer Science, Advanced Zoology & Biotechnology, Plant Biology, Plant Biotechnology, Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics, BCom is available in General and Corporate Secretaryship. For all courses, passing the 10 + 2 exam is the fundamental requirement for eligibility. Every admission is determined by the candidate's performance on the qualifying exam.

B.Com Specialisations include General and Corporate Secretaryship The candidate must have passed the commerce equivalent of the Higher Secondary exam. In class 12, the candidate should have taken commerce and accounting as required courses.
BSc Computer Science (Self-financing) This course does not have any specialisation The candidate must have passed the Higher Secondary exam or its equivalent in computer science, business mathematics, or general mathematics. science. The candidate must have taken mathematics as a required subject in grade 2.
BSc - Advanced Zoology & Biotechnology, Plant Biology & Plant Biotechnology, Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics are among the specialties. The candidate must have passed the Higher Secondary exam or its equivalent, with a grade in General Mathematics. In class 12, mathematics should have been a required subject for the candidate. Candidates must have passed the Higher Secondary Biology/Zoology & Botany exam or its equivalent in order to be considered for Plant Biology & Plant Biotechnology and Advanced Zoology & Biotechnology. Chemistry should have been a required subject for the candidate in class 12.
BA - Specialisations include History, Sociology, Economics, English and Arabic The candidate's cumulative score on the qualifying exam must be at least 40%.
  • Shift 2: Courses in Science, Humanities & Social Sciences, Commerce, Management, and Computers & IT are available at the college. B.Sc. in Biotechnology and Computer Science, B.Com. in General, Corporate Secretaryship, and Bank Management, and BA in Urdu are all available. Additionally, The New College provides BBA and BCA programs.

BCA - This course does not have any specialisation A passing grade in the Higher Secondary test or its equivalent with General Computer, Business Math, and Mathematics, science. In class 12, the candidate should have taken mathematics as a required subject.

What is application process of The New College?

Before completing the Application Form, download the Prospectus and carefully read the instructions. Step 1: Click the 'Register' button after reading the application instructions. Step 2: Carefully enter your information. OTP will be sent to you via email and SMS. Please also look in the spam folder. Step 3: Enter all the information and log into your account. Step 4: The dashboard screen will appear after you submit the form. Step 5: Click the Make Payment button to finish the transaction after making sure your popup blocker is turned off. You will receive an email with your details as soon as the payment is complete. Any updates will be sent to you via SMS and email.

What is the scholarship of the New College?

The students can apply for the following scholarships. For further information on other scholarships, students are advised to speak with the class counselor/scholarship clerk in the office. Additionally, they should read the scholarship announcements posted on the Notice Boards on a regular basis. Minority students are eligible for national merit-cum-means scholarships. In the qualifying exam, candidates must receive at least 50% of the possible points. Since there are only a certain number of scholarships available, the applicants' scores on their qualifying exam may be used to determine which candidates are qualified. Ph.D., M.Phil., UG, and PG courses are eligible for this grant. Limit of annual income: Rs. 1,00,000. SC and ST undergraduate and graduate students are eligible for the National Loan Scholarship. Candidates must have received at least 50% on the qualifying exam. Only students residing in reputable or authorized dorms are eligible for this scholarship. Limit of annual income: Rs. 1,00,000. Scholarships for students with physical disabilities, such as those who are visually impaired, deaf or hearing impaired, or orthopedically challenged. Limit of annual income: Rs. 1,00,000. For students who are SC, ST, or who have converted from Hinduism to Christianity, the state offers both residential and non-residential scholarships. These students must be native to Tamil Nadu or have their primary residence there. The annual income cap is Rs. 1,00,000 for Christian converts and Rs. 2,00,000 for SC and ST individuals. Students who completed their education in the Union Territory of Pondicherry are eligible for the Pondicherry State Post-Metric Scholarship. Students from Manipur state are eligible to apply for Post-Metric scholarships from the Government of Manipur's Directorate of Tribal Affairs. For students from the Lakshadweep group of islands, the Kochi administration of the Union Territory of Lakshadweep offers scholarships. Students from Nagaland state are eligible to apply for Post-Metric scholarships from the Directorate of Higher Education in Kohima, Nagaland. The Directorate of Collegiate Education, Tamil Nadu, offers scholarships under the Tamil Nadu Agricultural Laborers - Farmer’s Welfare Scheme to students who are members of the farmer’s community. scholarships for Tamil Nadu-born students with physical disabilities whose parents make less than Rs. 1,00,000 per year. Full-time Ph.D. students in all fields are eligible to receive scholarships (stipends) from Tamil Nadu's Directorate of Collegiate Education. Through the Directorate of Collegiate Education, Tamil Nadu, the Ministry of Human Resource Development awards scholarships to students who have demonstrated exceptional academic accomplishment in the qualifying exams (80% and above). Sri Lankan UG and PG students can apply for scholarships from the Indian Council of Cultural Relations (ICCR), which is part of the Indian government. The children of Tamil Nadu beedi, mine, and film workers are eligible for scholarships from the Ministry of Labor, Government of India.

What is the facility of The New College?

Hostel: The principal, the deputy warden, and two senior staff members that the principal designates shall make up the hostel committee. At least one meeting will be held each month to pass the accounts and create regulations pertaining to discipline maintenance, among other things. The resident superintendents, who are members of the college staff, will support the committee. The college principal, who also serves as the hostel's ex-officio warden, will have direct authority over the hostel. The Dy. warden will create bylaws for the efficient internal administration of the hostel, subject to the warden's approval.
