University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET-2025)

UGC-NET is held in June and December of each year. The National Testing Agency (NTA), in collaboration with UGC, is conducting UGC NET in 83 topics at chosen cities nationwide in an effort to regularize the UGC-NET examination cycle.

The following table details the requirements for applying for UGC NET 2025: Eligibility

Qualification Candidates may apply for UGC NET 2025 if they have a master's degree or an equivalent credential from any accredited college or university. This covers those who have finished their graduate work in a variety of fields. Institutions that have received formal accreditation from the appropriate educational authorities are referred to as recognized universities or colleges. The degree must be on par with a master's degree to guarantee that the candidate has a highly developed comprehension and expertise in their subject of study. The satisfactory completion of the necessary coursework and exams is necessary for admission. This qualifying requirement guarantees that applicants meet the educational requirements to take the UGC NET test.
Marks Candidates have to score a minimum of 55% in their master's degree qualifying test or an equivalent. However, applicants who fall under the categories of SC, ST, PWD, OBC-NCL, or third gender must receive a lower minimum score of 50%. This criteria guarantees inclusion and gives a wide range of candidates opportunity.
Age Limit Candidates applying for the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) must be under 30 years of age as of the first day of the application month. However, reserved category candidates will receive a 5-year age relaxation. For those applying for the position of Assistant Professor, there is no age limit.
Appearing Students in their final year or those who are awaiting their results may also apply to take the UGC NET test. These applicants must be nearing completion of a master's degree program, or a comparable one, from an accredited university. Although they are able to apply and take the test, their eligibility is only temporary. They have a deadline, usually prior to the final verification procedure, to fulfill their degree requirements and get the required credentials. Students who are almost finished with their education can quickly determine their future academic and career pathways with this option. Upon successful completion and certification of their final findings, their eligibility will be verified.

UGC NET 2025 Age Reduction Standards

In accordance with the age relaxation guidelines set by the Indian government, candidates are eligible for age relaxation for the UGC NET test. The following are the precise requirements for age relaxation: Up to a five-year respite is granted to candidates who identify as OBC, SC, ST, PwD, women, or third gender. Holders holding an LLM degree are also qualified for a five-year relaxation. Depending on how long their study takes, research scholars may be eligible for an age relaxation of up to five years. In addition, individuals who have served in the armed services are eligible for an age relaxation of up to five years depending on how long they have worked in the military industry.
