The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay, has released the exam pattern of UCEED 2025 on its official portal. The exam pattern is outlined in the UCEED 2025 Information Brochure. 

As per the UCEED exam pattern, Part B will include two questions - one question is drawing-based, while the other question is design-aptitude-based. Earlier, Part B included a single drawing-based question.

The test duration for Part B will be 60 minutes, while the duration for Part A will be 120 minutes.IIT Bombay will conduct the UCEED 2025 exam on January 19, 2025. 

Structure of the UCEED 2025 Exam Paper

The UCEED 2025 exam paper will be divided into Part A and Part B. Both sections are compulsory.

  • The total duration of Part A will be 2 hours.
  • The duration of Part B will be 1 hour.
  • The exam paper will be in English.
  • The total marks for the exam will be 300, with 200 marks allocated to Part A and 100 marks to Part B.

Details of UCEED 2025 Exam Pattern: Section-wise Questions and Marking Scheme

The UCEED exam will be divided into sections, each with its own marking scheme. Here is a breakdown:

Part A - Questions and Marks

  1. Numerical Answer Type (NAT):
    • Number of Questions: 14
    • Marks per Correct Answer: 4
    • No Negative Marks for Wrong Answers
  2. Multiple Select Questions (MSQ):
    • Number of Questions: 15
    • Full Marks: +4 for correct answers (if all correct options are chosen without selecting any incorrect ones)
    • Partial Marks: Up to +3 for partial correct answers, depending on the number of correct options selected.
    • Negative Marks: -1 for incorrect answers
  3. Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ):
    • Number of Questions: 28
    • Marks per Correct Answer: 3
    • Negative Marks: -0.71 for incorrect answers

Part B - Questions

Part B will consist of two questions:

  1. Sketching-based Question: Test the candidate's drawing skills.
  2. Design Aptitude-based Question: Evaluate the candidate's ability to approach design-related problems.

Both questions will be displayed on the computer screen, but candidates must answer them in a physical answer booklet provided by the invigilator.

Part A - Types of Questions and Marking Scheme

Section 1: Numerical Answer Type (NAT)
  • This part consists of 14 questions. There are no deductions for wrong responses, and each question is worth four points. Candidates are required to answer these questions numerically using a virtual keyboard. 
Section 2: Multiple Select Questions (MSQ)
  • This portion consists of fifteen questions. Candidates must choose the correct answers for each question to receive full credit. Partial marks may be given based on the proper responses if fewer than the necessary number of correct options are chosen.
Section 3: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ)
  • This section includes 28 questions. Each correct answer earns 3 marks, and incorrect answers result in a penalty of 0.71 marks.

Part B - Key Information

  • There are two questions in Part B: one about design aptitude and one about sketching.
  • While the questions will be shown on the computer screen, responses must be typed or illustrated in an answer booklet provided by the invigilator. 
  • Both questions in Part B are mandatory. Failure to attempt either of the two questions will result in disqualification from the examination process.

PwD candidates using a scribe are not allowed any additional help in Part B, as this section aims to assess their drawing skills.

At the end of the exam, candidates must hand in their Part B answer booklets to the invigilators.

Update on UCEED 2025 Exam Pattern

Along with the syllabus, the exam pattern for UCEED 2025 has also changed. The main changes are:

  • Part A will have three sections: Numerical Answer Type (NAT), Multiple Select Question (MSQ), and Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ).
  • Part B now has two questions: one drawing-based question and one design aptitude-based question. The duration for Part B has also been extended to 60 minutes (up from 30 minutes).

UCEED Syllabus 2025

IIT Bombay revised the UCEED syllabus in the previous edition of the entrance exam.

Here are the key points about the UCEED syllabus 2025:

  1. The UCEED 2025 question paper has two parts - Part A and Part B
  2. Part A will be administered through a computer-based test consisting of three sections (NAT, MSQ, and MCQ).
  3. Part B will now have TWO questions: one on Drawing and the other on Design aptitude. The question in Part B will be displayed on the computer screen, and the answer must be written/drawn in the answer book provided by the invigilator.
  4. A will be 120 minutes, while Part B will be 60 minutes.
Part A will have questions on the following topics:
  • The capacity to visualize and manipulate 2D shapes, 3D objects, and their spatial relationships is known as visualization and spatial reasoning.
  • Scientific and practical knowledge: familiarity with commonplace items and scientific concepts.
  • Sensitivity to observation and design: The ability to recognise hidden qualities in everyday situations and consider them critically. Observation, categorization, evaluation, deduction, and forecasting.
  • Environment and society: A general understanding of how design is related to the environment, society, and culture.
  • Logical and analytical reasoning: The capacity to evaluate quantitative and qualitative data.
  • Language: The ability to read and understand Standard English.
  • Creativity: Understanding metaphors, signs, symbols, and analogies, both spoken and unspoken.
Part B will have questions on the following topics:
  • Drawing: The capacity to depict objects, people, or scenes proportionately using excellent line quality, perspective, composition, shading, and proportion.
  • Design aptitude: The capacity to use creativity and empathy to solve issues and circumstances practically and acceptably.

Every year, around 15,000 students appear in the UCEED exam to fill 225 B.Des seats offered by UCEED participating colleges. What is the pattern of UCEED 2025?

Is 3 months enough for UCEED?

YES, any undergraduate student in 3rd year or higher years of any government-approved program in Engineering/ Technology/ Architecture/ Science/ Commerce/Arts/ Humanities is eligible to appear for GATE 2025.

Does UCEED have a negative marking?

Further, aspirants who wish to know “there is a negative marking in UCEED” should note that there will be no negative marking for NAT questions. However, partial marks -1 and 0.71 will be deducted for MSQ and MCQ in Part A, respectively.
