JEE Main Marks Vs. Percentile Vs. Rank 2025: JEE Main 2025 Exam is going to be over in 2 days. The exam will conclude on April 9, 2025. Once the exam concludes, NTA will declare the JEE Main 2025 Result. Along with the result, candidates will have access to the JEE Main Marks Vs. Percentile Vs. Rank 2025. Meanwhile, candidates can refer to this article to check expected Marks Vs. Percentile Vs. Rank based on the previous year’s data. Aspirants with higher percentile will get the opportunity to be admitted into IITs, NFTIs, and GFTIs.
NTA publishes the JEE Main 2025 score in percentile format. However, the percentile score is not the actual marks of the candidates. NTA calculates the percentile score by converting the actual marks.

Why JEE Main 2025 Score Will be Realsed in Percentlie?
NTA conducts the JEE Main across multiple days (two shifts each day). Due to this, the difficulty level of the question varies. As a result, some students might face a tougher set of questions compared to others. This variation can impact their scores especially those who are facing tougher questions.
To address this and maintain fairness, NTA uses a normalisation method based on percentile scores. The purpose is to accurately assess a candidate’s performance and create an equal evaluation platform. According to the official guidelines, this normalisation method is widely accepted and used in many large-scale entrance exams across India. For balancing scores across sessions, NTA follows the percentile equivalence method.
How to Calculate JEE Main 2025 Percentile?
In the JEE Main exam, the highest raw score obtained in a particular session is considered equivalent to the 100 percentile. This becomes the reference point for calculating the normalised percentile scores for all other candidates in that session. The lowest raw score, along with the total number of candidates who appeared in that shift, is also taken into account during the calculation. It is important to note that the percentile score is different from the raw score and should not be confused with the percentage of marks. The percentile score reflects a candidate’s relative performance in comparison to others who appeared in the same session.
To calculate the JEE Main percentile score, the following formula is used:
Percentile Score = (Total number of candidates who scored less than T1 Score/ Total number of candidates in that session) × 100.
JEE Main 2025 Marks Vs. Percentile: Tie Breaking Criteria
When two or more candidates get the same percentile score in JEE Main, tie-breaking rules are applied to decide their ranks.
- First, the candidate with a higher percentile in Mathematics will be given the higher rank.
- If the tie still remains, then the percentile in Physics is considered.
- If it's still the same, then the percentile score in Chemistry is used to break the tie.
- If all three subject scores are also equal, then the candidate who is older in age is ranked higher.
The JEE Main 2025 results will be announced separately for each session on the official website at jeemain.nta.nic.in. After both sessions are completed, NTA will release the final results, where the best score out of the two attempts will be considered for candidates who appeared in both sessions. The JEE Main 2025 merit list will be prepared based on these final NTA scores and ranks.
