The Indira Gandhi National Tribal University, Anuppur, Madhya Pradesh has been established by an Act of the Parliament of India. It came to existence by the Indira Gandhi National Tribal University Act, 2007 and came into action in July 2008. It is a UGC-recognized university and also accredited by NAAC with grade 'B'.

IGNTU Facilities
The Indira Gandhi National Tribal University provides various facilities to the students as well as faculty members:
Central Library: IGNTU Library is the focal point of information for the student's community. Currently, it has 58000 books in its collection.
Hostel: There are 3 boys' and 1 girls hostel namely Narmada Boys, Sone Hostel for Boys, TCPC Boys Hostel and New Girls Hostels.
NCC: NCC unit of the University is under the 7 M.P. (I) COY NCC Shahdol of Jabalpur Group. It started in the University in July 2013. The total allotment strength of SD (Senior Division NCC) Cadets is 106. Presently the total strength of SD Cadets is 36.

Faculty members of the university are well qualified. Most of the professors are NET qualified and possess a doctorate in their specializations.
