Can one use BHM to prepare for civil services or cooperate in the government?

Bachelor of Hotel Management (BHM) is very much restricted to the hospitality and tourism industry, though it is useful even to students who aspire to work with government jobs, especially tourism boards, catering services (e.g., Indian Railways, IRCTC), aviation and hospitality services related to the government side. But students will have to get ready individually to attend exams such as UPSC or State PSCs, as BHM has no direct connection to civil services curricula. Nevertheless, the skills that are achieved during the course in terms of communication, management, and problem solving are a good foundation for any interview or examination procedure by the government.

Does BHM have any foreign language components?

Well, most BHM courses involve learning a foreign language, be it French, Spanish or German, as the knowledge of languages is quite essential in foreign hospitality. Secondly, interdisciplinary courses like Business Management, Tourism Studies, Event Management, Marketing, Environmental Studies and even IT applications are applicable in hospitality are usually packaged in the said program. These make the course wider and enhance the employability of students in different service industries.

What are the contributions of the BHM course to the digital and contemporary hospitality developments?

The changing industry has caused most modern programs of BHM to revise their curriculum by introducing Hospitality IT, Hotel Information Systems (PMS such as Opera/Fidelio), Digital Marketing in Hospitality and Social Media Management. Learners are prepared to manage online reservations, guest relationship systems and hospitality metrics, which would be necessary in the technologically advanced market today. There are also modules in food photography, blogging and creation of YouTube channels in some institutions as well to keep pace with the idea of food and travel content creation.

Are the BHM applications set aside for the science or commerce streams of students in business?

Yes, any student (class 12) of any stream, viz. Science, Commerce or Arts can apply to BHM, provided he/she has cleared his/her 10+2 examinations of a recognized board with a minimum aggregate marks 50%. Any particular hospitality background is not necessary. Nonetheless, individuals who are inclined to communication, service, and management skills are better accustomed. A number of the colleges might also take entrance tests or face-to-face interviews to test the suitability for the hospitality industry.
