BTech Food Technology is a four-year undergraduate course in engineering that deals with the application of science and engineering in processing, preservation, packaging and distribution of food. This course is not only focused on introducing the students to the professional life of the food industry, but also to ensure that the students are equipped with the necessary knowledge of dealing with core engineering sciences as well as food science and technology.

 

The syllabus of both the government and private colleges contains a combination of the basics in sciences, engineering, and topics that are specific to food. The first semesters usually entail basic courses such as Applied Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and basic food technology and programming modules. During advanced years, the study extended to more specialized learning in Food Chemistry, Food Microbiology, Food Biochemistry, Food Processing, Food Preservation, and Food Engineering Processes.

 

The syllabus for BTech Food Technology is also frequently updated to address industry requirements and several colleges now include internships and practical training so that it should give them experience in the industry. Although the content within will be similar across all colleges, private colleges can provide more electives or even international exposure which helps students in building a better career.

BTech Food Technology Exam Pattern

BTech Food Technology features an exam pattern following a semester-based system, and examinations are held at semester-end. The exams consist of:

  • Assessment: Assessment consists of a combination of both written theory examination, practical/lab examination, internal assessment (mid-semester examination, assignment, and presentation), and viva-voce, where necessary.
  • Theory Exams: The theory exams are an assessment of conceptual knowledge, whilst the practical exams and viva-voce are an assessment of hands-on skills and practical application of knowledge; internal assessments assist in monitoring continuous improvement in the semester.
