Presidency College was established in 1840 by the British as the first Government College in South India lies near Marina Beach. It lies as a brick of confidence, walls of self-reliance, embedded with laurels of academic excellence and professional nuance, conglomerating to form the nucleus of Presidency College.
In 1998, the National Assessment and Accreditation Council accredited the college with four stars. In March 2005 the National Assessment and Accreditation Council re-accredited the College and awarded the Grade “A†(85% to 90%).
The college has continued to provide and impart quality education with intellectual inputs from 26 departments in both humanities and science with UG, PG and research programmes like MPhil and Ph.D.
The college which has offered instructions at the B.A. level, started in 1911 honours classes in English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, Sanskrit and History also provide M.A. courses.
The college prides itself on facilitating the education of around 100 visually impaired students in an inclusive setup and 200 hearing-impaired students in an exclusive setup.
