The Maharashtra National Law University (MNLUA) in Aurangabad, is one of the newer NLUs in India, established in 2017, under the Maharashtra National Law University Act. It is recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the Bar Council of India (BCI). The university offers full-time law programs in BA LLB (Hons.), BBA LLB (Hons.), LL.M, MA in Public Policy and a Ph.D. in Law.

 

MNLUA offers UG courses in BA LLB (Hons.) and BBA LLB (Hons.), both of 5 years duration, with annual tuition fees of INR 2.75 lakh. At the PG level, it offers a 1 year LL.M program with a fee of INR 1.59 lakh per year and a 2 year MA in Public Policy, with INR 49,500 Tuition fee per year. At the Doctoral level, it offers a Ph.D. in Law and LL.D course, both of 3 years duration with a tuition fee of INR 60,000 per year.

 

Admissions for UG and PG courses is through CLAT 2026, while for the MA and Ph.D. programs, MNLUA conducts separate entrance tests. LL.D admissions do not involve an entrance test. For 2026 admissions, the CLAT 2026 notification was released on 21 July 2025. Registrations open from 1 August to 31 October 2025, with the exam scheduled on 7 December 2025. The application fee is INR 4,000 for general categories and INR 3,500 for SC/ST/BPL candidates. The exam is pen and paper based and held offline.

MNLUA offers a 1 year LLM course and a 2 years MA in Public Policy. LLM fee is INR 1.59 lakh per year, the MA program is more affordable at INR 49,500 per year.

  • To be eligible for LLM, candidates need to have a 3 year or 5 year LLB degree from a recognised university with minimum 50% marks (45% for SC/ST), admission is through CLAT PG.
  • For the MA course, candidates need to have a graduation degree in any discipline, admission through MNLU Common Admission Test (M-CAT).

MNLU offers both Ph.D. in Law and LL.D. (Doctor of Laws), for a duration of 3 years with tuition fees of INR 60,000 per year.

  • To be eligible for the Ph.D, candidates need to have an LLM degree with at least 55% marks (50% for reserved categories), admission through the PET (Ph.D. Entrance Test) or exemption through UGC NET/JRF.
  • For LL.D, candidates should have a Ph.D. in Law with at least 10 years of teaching or research experience and significant published work, selection is based on application review and an interview.

Maharashtra National Law University Aurangabad Application Process 2025

MNLU Aurangabad admits candidates for the BA LLB, BBA LLB and LLM programs through CLAT. For MA in Public Policy, admission is based on the M-CAT (MNLU Common Admission Test) and for Ph.D., the university conducts the PhD Entrance Test (PET), followed by an interview. MNLU Aurangabad also accepts national level entrance exams like UGC NET and CSIR UGC NET (JRF or LS), for admission.

  • Candidates need to first register on the CLAT Consortium website, for courses that accept CLAT for admission.
  • The CLAT application costs INR 4,000 for General/OBC and INR 3,500 for SC/ST.
  • Appear for the exam on the given date and time and venue. CLAT 2026 is scheduled for 7 December 2025, for both UG and PG courses.
  • Once the results are announced, candidates that meet the cut offs need to join the counselling rounds for seat allotment.
  • During the counselling, select MNLU as preference and lock seats according to you rank
