The National Law University, Tripura (NLUT), is the 25th NLU in India, established in 2022. This institute for legal education is situated in the capital city of Agartala, started its first academic session in October 2022. NLUT offers a 5-year integrated B.A.LL.B. (Hons.) program at the undergraduate level, a 1-year LL.M. program with specialisation in Constitutional Law (for the 2025 - 26 session), and Ph.D. program, both full-time and part-time. In addition to degree programs, the university provides various certificate courses and PG Diploma/Diploma programs.

 

Admissions to NLUT’s UG and PG programs are based on CLAT scores, which is followed by centralised CLAT counselling. Candidates are required to first register and apply for CLAT on the official Consortium of NLUs website. Seat allotments during counselling are done category-wise and unfilled reserved seats may be later converted based on merit. For Ph.D. admissions, NLUT conducts its own DRAT exam, followed by interview and academic assessment.

NLUT UG Courses 2025

NLUT offers legal education programs at undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels. Admission to the B.A.LL.B. (Hons.) and LL.M. programs is through the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT).

  • To be eligible for B.A.LL.B. (Hons.), candidates need Class 12 with English as a subject, least 45% aggregate marks (40% for SC/ST) and a valid score in the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT)

NLUT PG Courses 2025

The LL.M. program at NLUT is a one-year postgraduate course with a total fee of approximately INR 1,51,000. To be eligible for the LL.M. course, candidates need to have passed their LL.B. or an equivalent examination from a recognised Board or Council.

NLUT Ph.D Courses 2025

NLUT offers both full-time and part-time Ph.D. programs, with fees set at INR 93,000 for full-time and INR 57,000 for part-time options. Admissions are based on the Doctoral Research Entrance Test (DRAT), academic merit and an interview. To be eligible, candidates need to have a Post Graduation in a relevant field. Admission is based on a Doctoral Research Admission Test (DRAT), academic performance, followed by an interview. Apart from these NLUT also offers certificate courses, along with PG Diploma and Diploma programs.

NLUT Application Process 2025

The admission process for programs at National Law University, Tripura, primarily relies on performance in the CLAT.

  • All candidates who wish to get admission to the BA.LLB and LL.M programs, need to first appear for CLAT and qualify with the required score.
  • To Apply for CLAT, candidates have to fill the application form through the Consortium of NLU official website.
  • Students will have to register on the website first, then fill in personal and academic details, upload all necessary documents and pay the application fee.
  • The CLAT application fee is INR 4,000 for General/OBC/NRI/PIO/OCI/PwD candidates and INR 3,500 for SC/ST/BPL candidates. Previous year question papers are also available at an additional price of INR 500.
  • Candidates are then shortlisted based on their merit in CLAT
  • They will then need to participate in the CLAT counselling process.
  • Intake for both B.A.LL.B. and LL.M. programs is done category wise at NLUT and unfilled reserved seats may be converted to other categories or general seats based on merit.
