National Institute of Technology Agartala was founded as a Tripura Engineering institution in 1965, a public engineering institution. Engineering, management, basic science, and the humanities are among the UG and PG programs offered by NIT Agartala. The National Institute of Technology Agartala is ranked 94th in the Engineering category by IIRF 2025. In 2006, the Indian government changed the name of the Tripura Engineering College to NIT Agartala. AICTE has authorised Agartala NIT.
