About WCE

Walchand College of Engineering, Sangli is one of Maharashtra's oldest and most prestigious technical institutions, established in 1947 by Late Shri Dhondumama Sathe as "New Engineering College." The institute was renamed in 1955 after receiving substantial financial support from Seth Walchand Hirachand Memorial Trust. Located in Sangli, Maharashtra, the college has been serving the engineering education sector for over 75+ years and was granted autonomous status in 2007 by the Government of Maharashtra and UGC, which was extended for a second term in 2014. The institution achieved remarkable recognition by securing 2nd rank all-India out of 127 institutes in the World Bank-funded TEQIP program impact assessment survey in 2010.

The institution has consistently maintained its position among India's premier engineering colleges, having been selected multiple times under the prestigious TEQIP program in 2005, 2011, and 2017. The college received Rs. 9 crores funding under TEQIP Phase I, which concluded in March 2009. With its autonomous status granted in 2007 and extended until 2020, the institution offers AICTE-approved programs across multiple engineering disciplines. The college has demonstrated exceptional placement performance with 464 undergraduate students placed during 2010-2011, showcasing its strong industry connections and academic excellence.

 

Walchand College of Engineering Courses & Fees

The college offers a comprehensive range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs across various engineering disciplines. Starting with Civil Engineering in 1947 with a capacity of 60 students, the institution expanded to include Electrical Engineering in 1955 and Mechanical Engineering in 1956, both with 60-student capacities. Postgraduate courses were introduced in 1971 across civil, mechanical, and electrical engineering disciplines. The college further diversified by adding Electronics Engineering in 1986, Computer Science and Engineering programs, and Information Technology in 2001 with a 60-student capacity. The institution also offers Ph.D. programs across various engineering disciplines, making it a complete technical education destination.

 

Walchand College of Engineering Admission Process

The admission process at Walchand College of Engineering follows the Maharashtra state counseling procedure for undergraduate programs and separate procedures for postgraduate courses. For B.E. programs, candidates must appear for MHT-CET or JEE Main examinations, with admissions conducted through the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE), Maharashtra. M.E. admissions are based on GATE scores or entrance examinations conducted by the college. The college maintains its autonomous status which allows it to have flexibility in curriculum design and evaluation methods. Ph.D. admissions are conducted through entrance examinations and interviews, with candidates required to have qualifying degrees in relevant engineering disciplines.

  • Application Window: May-July for undergraduate programs, March-May for postgraduate programs

  • Entrance Exams: MHT-CET, JEE Main for B.E.; GATE for M.E.; College entrance test for Ph.D.
